I think we will definitely need to sell a CM before getting Schneiderlin. I also think bringing in Musacchio will give Dawson the push to leave. There has also been talk of Naughton going to Swansea (unless that has changed) which free's up more space.

Not sure you need to prefix your statement with 'I think'

With (in no particular order) Paulhino, Dembele, Capoue, Sandro ....and Bentaleb (last season) and now Mason (in pre-season) looking very good, and even Carroll (although he made less of an impression on preseason than we might have wished) , we are over stocked at CM before Schneiderlin arives - so the only real question is 'who goes ?!'

Ali G and HertYid (??) said Lascelles to spurs was done. It went all quiet, we signed Diers and most thought that Lascelles was out the picture. However, the player then followed SpursOfficial on twitter for all of an hour and the "done deal" talk resurfaced on here.

Newcastle appear to be getting deals done really quickly this summer so if we want him, we better move fast (or he'll be following Newcastle's twitter...)

Well if Ali G said it then booyakasha!

Spot on. I actually think we need to loan out Carroll (Derby Rumors), and either sell either Paulinho or Demebele or loan out Mason (and this is without signing Schneiderlin). If we were to sign MS, I think we would have to sell Sandro (with a heavy heart) on top of what I mentioned, leaving us with:

Capoue
Schneiderlin
2 of Paulinho/Dembele/Mason
Bentaleb

I think we need 4 senior players for the double pivot. I.e move Dembele on to make room for Schneiderlin now. But then maybe keep Paulinho for another year before letting him go and promoting Bentaleb.

Well Lascelles does have a rather french sounding last name, so perhaps Pardew is confused.

some of this seems to have been posted..but not all. here goes

lots from ali z (can we drop the itk bashing...the mods on coys got busy learning about the jj bashing on there and took action) - lets do the same - its passed on in good faith.)

ali z: Can spend between £15m - 20 m this summer, there will still be plenty more outgoings at least 3 first team players and 3/4 fringe younger players. Finances are not the issue, wages, squad size and balance are.
Still looking to bring in 3 more for first team and maybe a few younger ones.

ali z on lwf or lw?: Not a LW a LWF big difference in style of player.

suggestion by someone:
Id imagine Mateo, Schniedy and Rodriguez/Depay/Kono would be the three type of player we'll be looking at.
ali z: bang on ..other options too.

ali z: Davies will be first choice LB, Vorm and Dier are back ups.

trix asking ali if hes also heard verts signed new deal: nope last i heard club were confident but been tough week lost one of my closest pals so not really been in the loop buddy.

ali z: As I understand it none of deals done, MS an MM both very close. Like you said Jay R may have to wait or we might look elsewhere, a lot dependent on other clubs and player movement but expect plenty to happen this month.

All sounds very sensible to me.

It will be interesting whether we decide to go for one of Kono or Depay, or wait 6 months for Rodriguez.

If we can get Musacchio and Schneiderlin over the line soon, most of the last month of the window will surely be about outgoings. At this rate we're going to have about 36 senior players, so are going to need to shift 8-10 of them.

I think Mason could do a job as back up in the double pivot, so Capoue, Sandro or Schniderlin, Paulinho or Dembele and Mason (with Bentaleb 5th choice) would work.

I would keep Mason and Bentaleb at Spurs rather than loan out - reason is that I think that they fit well with Capoue and Schneiderlin in being the sort of CM's that Poch wants - players than pass well with a bit of steel. IMO Dembele and Paulhino would only really play if Poch played a 433, so one of them would play with 2 other CM's (probably Capoue, Schneiderlin, Mason or Bentaleb) - although both Dembele and Paulhino might (at a stretch I think) could play in a more AM role.

So if Poch wants to play 4231 and buys Schneiderlin I could see potentialy see 2 of Sandro, Dembele and Paulhino sold.

Hertyid only said a deal for a young cb was done. He never said it was lascelles, only Ali Z did. After Dier was confirmed, hertyid said it was him he was talking about

Mason ahead of Bentaleb despite one being a full international and playing a good number of (full) matches for the first team and impressing? Hope Mason's spark can continue and he develops into a good player for us but I can't see he's done anything to jump ahead of Bentaleb yet...

I agree, I would keep Mason, he has the most vision and passing ability of those in that list too. Many people on here think that Capoue & Schneiderlin will start most games (if we get him), but other than the top teams, I think the 2 will rotate with either Mason, Dembele or Paulinho.

Yes, because he offers vision and passing that the others in the CM don't. I would also give Bentaleb lots of game time too, but at 19, you don't want to give him too much and put too much pressure on him.

I'd love Ali Z to be right (and me to be wrong) but I really can't see us signing anyone else apart from Musacchio and Schneiderlin. Those 2 are going to be expensive and I think a LWF will be stretching it a bit.

Can I just ask - is this the same Mason that I saw getting torn a new one in a Doncaster shirt by championship journeymen a year or two ago? And people are putting him in the team ahead of our riches of Brazil, France, Belgium and Algerian internationals?

I don't think we're talking quantum differences here in terms of passing and vision.

Mason has looked bright in pre season but I still wouldn't be surprised if he's loaned out again.

I expect one of our outgoings will bring in a nice wedge though as it's likely to be either paul'o or sandro (still got a feeling it could be both...just can't sake it).

I think shinehead will give poch what he wants.

Agree. We could probably cover most of Musacchio and Schneiderlin by selling Kaboul, Dawson and Dembele (considering we are also £9m in profit so far this window)

But if we go for a LWF, I think it might be a loanee to fill the gap till we go for Rodriguez in January (and maybe use Townsend to fund a chunk of that then).
