Right, the season of goodwill to all men is over (thank fuck) so we (I) can now resume normal service.

We are a tier 2 club still - we can't offer the same wages the bigger clubs can and we still do not have the name or the respect around Europe as those teams. I'm sure we will get there eventually but we could be a good 5 years or so away from that even if things go our way and we win a few things. It's frustrating but this is the reality.

It says the players turned us down - not the teams they play for.

it's more likely their agents turned us down when they compared the wages we were offering to the competition.

guess playing for Pochettino isn't as attractive as sitting on a bench earning double the money

Or maybe uncertainty over Pochettino himself was an influence

Not at all suprised that these players turned us down. The reality is we are shopping on the shelf below the one they are on. That means we have to take risks (with good scouting reducing risk) but it also means the fees should be smaller.

Fans calling for 50m plus signings need to realise that it's not as easy as signing a check, because the players that cost that much won't come to us when they have offers on the table from teams who are more likely to win something in the short term.

Maybe he fancies his chances competing for places with Willian, Hazard and Pedro more than Son, Eriksen and Dele.

Yes I’m aware of that. I’m saying that even if, in Pulisic’s case, the player was happy to join us I’m not sure we would’ve offered what Dortmund wanted in terms of fee.
So nothing really to do with JJ's tweet, just your view, that's cool, I can see that. :)

Not paying going rate wages is the problem, end of.

All this posturing over CL football doesn’t stop its, Chelsea, Arsenal etc signing these players.

They care about wages for 99% of it.

He may not have to for long.
On the plus side maybe, just maybe it is another rung in the ladder leading to an understanding that great facilities and huge potential aren't quite enough at this level you need to give them money as well, although I'm still not convinced Pulisic is worthy of that much money.

Or it could be that he maybe earned £20k per week more at Chelsea? I know what I would choose.

It will have to be seen what Pulisic is being paid to be honest. After their new contracts I believe Son and Dele are paid equivalent to everyone bar Hazard and Kante at Chelsea. Kane is on more than Hazard and possibly Kante too after factoring in bonuses, so it's probably not money.

More likely it's their recent history of success and higher profile, and possibly a more direct route to first XI (however if Eriksen leaves he would have been a starter you'd imagine).

De Jong seems destined for the real elite so that's a given he decided against us.

The frustrating thing is we've always managed the odd coup over the years when we were a lot less attractive as a club, look at Eriksen, Berbatov, VDV, Modric, Bale, Vertonghen all who were courted by big boys before joining. Look at Klinsmann going back a bit further. We've only really had Sanchez since we became regular CL (admittedly Moura was a decent get too). I guess it's due to the shift in the market where the elite are struggling to cherry pick from the likes of us/Liverpool/Dortmund at a reasonable price, stepping stones are less viable.

Pulisic has to be wages. Poch is superb at developing young talent; I can’t imagine much else affecting his decision. De Jong doesn’t surprise me; we’ve had news of him being set on Barcelona before

It's a reality check for some of the fans I reckon Doc.
