This is odd because did we not have ITK saying that Martial had been shown around the training facilities and stadium? You wouldn't do this unless he was a prime target. I understand that lack of CM options, outgoings, HG etc may have changed things but just register 1 less player. I mean, how many minutes would VJ and GKN actually get anyway?

Seems like an excuse to me and a poor approach to the transfer window. JUST BITE THE BULLET!!

Poch would eat baldy alive if he didn't bring Martial when possible.

But they are no mugs, must be some good reasons to stall.

Surely must be prioritising a non HG central midfielder who is deemed more important to us than Martial.

It's good that Poch is apparently looking at a non-HG signing for CM, but the non-HG situation at the club is a disaster. How can you be delaying any deal for non-HG players because we have 3 non-HG keepers and players who got less than 100 minutes for us in CL? Disgraceful from the club for the lack of planning

I am just going to put this link here:

http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/homegrown-whats-the-low-down.98335/page-4#

For anyone who wants to see/talk about the HG / non-HG issues facing the club. Better to keep that conversation over there. Suffice it to say, even with Toby gone, the next non-HG player we sign would put us 1 spot over the limit for the league, and 3 spots over the limit for CL (because Davies and Foyth both have to be registered as non-HG, over-21, players in CL, but not the PL).

I created a "Homegrown" and squad status thread in Spurs chat a week or so ago, and the mods deleted it because it's transfer related, and so has to exist in the Transfer section.

As a result, I'd suggest that this thread (whilst repetitive) is still the place for it.

This ITK cannot be correct. The likes of Janssen, N’koudou, Llorente, Sissoko, Foyth - as well as departures of Toby, Dembele - lots of ways space could and would be freed up if it meant getting someone of Martial quality.

We can play Delle or Eriksen there till Winks and Wanyama recovers. We should just sign Grealish and Martial, we are ready. No point getting another non HG CM at this point of time.

Yup - when have we ever bought, or had the chance to buy someone like Martial?

If that’s the case it’s a total cock up. I’d flog the peripheral players for F’all - the write off would just be the cost of making a bad buy
Totally agree and even giving them away is not a loss on the grand scale of profits we have made in kane deli erikson etc its swings and roundabouts. This is some sort of weak excuse and if this window hadnt fkd my nerves up already. It certainly would with this madness.

No way on earth will we pass up Martial because we might have one or two unregistered players. I just find it too hard to believe.

Agree. HG will being used as an excuse once the window closes! Now is the time to be brave and if a player like martial is available then get it done.

If spurs have to take a hit on offloading deadwood after our window closes then so be it as we’d be stronger.

Just feels like there are a lot of excuses being made at the moment and all we’ll have is players signing new contracts once window closes to try appease the fans!

This suggests to me that Wanyama’s injury is as bad as the first time it occurred, hence we need a CM even more now than we did previously. So you can see why Poch has other priorities than Martial.

We can but we will have zero leverage to make a deal. The players we are trying to offload are not highly sought after, so it’s doubtful we can put teams against each other and drive the prices up. That means we are dealin with one club who, who knows we have to sell bc these players aren’t registered and won’t play if we don’t.

Teams have hardly been queuing up all summer ti buy them though have they?

Let's be real. Loans were the best hope for our deadwood regardless...

If we need a replacement for Wanyama, surely that alters the sort of midfielder we need? Get Foyth up to speed with playing that role IMO - I think he'd be classy at the base of a midfield 3.

I agree, though if Wanyama's injury is bad enough to keep him out 10+ weeks, we could easily not register him for CL group stage, and wait for the knockout stage.

So your solution to selling a CB and having shortages in midfield, is to leave out our other decent CB (Foyth), and our other Midfielder (Sissoko), and replace them with Martial - who plays in a position we have plenty of cover for?

It's obvious that we are dealing with limited numbers of incoming Non-HG players, and if Poch thinks it's better to use them in places they are required (rather than desired), then I'm afraid that's probably sensible and, more importantly, his decision to make a call on. Can't force him to take Martial if he doesn't think he's as important as someone else.
