If you have any doubt about just how evil he is, consider the only established, 100% true fact we know about Keith Palmer: He comes from Tunbridge Wells.

Says it all.

My dad lives in Tunbridge Wells and I used to frequent the bars of that area on regular occasions during my youthfulness. Apologise immediately BO or suffer the consequences.

Ladies and gentleman, I rest my case.

I'd love to respond with a witty comeback but the truth of it is that I was glad to get away from the area...although I sort of miss playing gigs at the Forum to a room of posh emo kids and their dealers.

...and if you traced the source of all that narcotic activity back to its source, one man sits behind the web of criminal intrigue: Mr Keith Palmer.

I tried to resist it, but I can't: who the fuck is Keith Palmer?

The only thing i would say about last nights madness is this...........

Some people have mentioned a press embargo, which on the face of it seems unlikely. However we know that journo's trawl through forums and have many times seen ITK from here suddenly appear as an article in one of the rags or on line

So given all the excitement and rumours last night where are the stories from the press? Surely one of them at least would have wanted to write a quoteless article with little foundation? They normally do

Why is it so quite from the press? Perhaps there is something in this press embargo..............

Absolutely agree. There's no business logic behind spending a billion pounds to win the champions league, racking up huge losses along the way other than vanity.
Which is exactly what the Abu Dhabi lot are doing with Shitty. They don't need to make a profit. they just want success/prestige/international "status." So, if the only way they can get that international status is to buy it, then they will. Shitty is a vanity project - pure and simple.
You must understand that, for all their fabulous wealth, the Gulf Arabs still yearn to be "respected" by the wider world. Buying success/prestige is one of their ways of doing that. Not that it works, in my book.

It's status and joining the world, no longer being in isolation in the GCC and the negative view many have of Arabs (terrorists, extremists etc...). The Qatar World Cup is a prime example (the presentation was as impressive as the briefcase full of cash), the world youth athletics has been at Doha before and so have some high profile football friendlies. It's a very young population in this region, the elite are very well educated and ambitious.. they want to diversify away from oil and into investments, as well as - as you say - gaining fame - through international ownership. Harrods is owned by Qataris too. It's empire building through sponsorship as well, and with so many countries on their knees and needing funding here are a group of countries with almost endless cash to help them out! Convenient all round.

It's not selling 40% if it's issuing new shares. If THFC issues shares worth £200m to new investors, the new value of the enterprise is £700m. The 500 from before plus 200. If ENIC had owned 100% before, they'd be 500/700=~70% owners. The new investor would be 200/700=~30% owners.

Also, their owned equity stake will not have gone down at all. It will still be worth the £500m that it was prior to investment. The hope therefore is that THFC can take the extra 200 cash and create value (assets such as new stadium -> new players/staff -> on pitch success -> fans -> growth -> higher valuation) such that the combined firm is worth more than £700m it would be with the investment.

This is of course not true if ENIC is just trying to sell some shares (i.e. no new shares), in that case the cash goes to ENIC who would then own, as you said, 60%.

Not trying to attack, just sharing my newfound knowledge of finance (I'm in school for it).

Some people are in prison for it. :D

I tried to resist it, but I can't: who the fuck is Keith Palmer?

It began in summer 2006. A wise, lovely poster called BoringOldFan started a thread "Who is Keith Palmer and does he post here?" The Palmer had written to The Daily Telegraph about Spurs, signing off that he lives in the aforementioned T Wells.

After a few obligatory Spartacus-esque gags, a full-blown search began. Photoshop-assisted billboards, newspaper front covers and posters were utilised as SC chased the elusive Palmer. Sightings were many, contact however was nil. He was as the Pimpernel.

Members complained of hamster homicide, moped theft and various heinous crimes, too upsetting to recall. Until one extraordinary morning, Keith himself showed up in Spurs Chat.

Some say what happened that morning was due to keith simply not being familiar with forums. He started a new thread for every post, for example. Chaos reigned. The site that yearned so for Keith Palmer, when found fully stocked of Keith Palmer, just wanted him gone. You've read The Cat in the Hat? This was like that. Only with Spurs. And less of the stripey hat.

So it went. Palmer left SC. Life continued. The evil was not in our faces so we allowed ourselves to get complacent. We forgot that one day, just when we least wanted him, he would return, ready to commitmore atrocities upon us and upon this site.

Sure, there are plenty of Keiths in the world. Why should this guy bringing wild and wondrous news in an apparently off-mic broadcast be the same man?

You think that if you want. Just don't say I didn't warn you....

Are you sure it wasn't 2005, Bill? I can remember the Carrick and Diddy-A sagas, JTG's infamous Joni Mitchell craptic, l'Equipe getting the scoop on all our incomings and Bonjourno's 'Micah Richards £15m done deal', but not Keith Palmer.
