Not getting the hate for Rondon at all he's bullied our back four every time he's played against us also arsenal cannot handle him every time I've watched him live he's been a threat and a nuisance who the hell do we expect to sign to sit on the bench?

Can edge your bets that a Vardy,Batshauyi etc wouldn't come here to sit on the bench.

I could see that being Grealish as well, especially because I I can't recall strong links to many other pure #10s--mostly wide forward/winger types. Don't think Grealish would do anything to lessen our interest in Martial/Bailey/Pulisic/etc. type either.

Not to mention villa might need to sell to raise funds

Just seen lascelles mentioned in the media. Honestly wouldn’t mind him. Rondon wouldn’t be too bothered about either. Knowing the amount of playing time he’ll get.

Wonder if it is a player from one of the relegated teams eg. Rondon (who I personally love),Hegazi or Shaqiri.

So we have 8 days until the World Cup starts...

Surely No.1 choice in that position means just that, first team, not no.1 choice as backup, which would be err no.2 choice in that position ?

I'm guessing it means Poch's first choice for that position in this transfer window. So if it was Rondon then his role is Kane back-up and Rondon is Poch's first choice as Kane back-up.

Yeah I hope it's Grealish as well. I can see why some might not be keen but the lad has talent and could still improve a lot. We can't expect to get everything done in a single transfer window and an Eriksen back up seems to be behind WF, CM and CB at least in the pecking order, so I think people should see this more as a bonus than anything if it comes off.

I am not going to be brave and call it. I expect with what is going on (negotiations), I expect 1, more likely 2 signings before WC starts. One ‘may’ be seen as ‘meh’. But don’t knock it, as Poch sees him as No.1 choice for him in that position.

I don't see 'backup striker' being considered a position. If Herc is saying No. 1 choice in that position then it has to mean starting XI. My guess would be someone like Ryan Bertrand or another full back but who knows!

So long as he's not seen as being 'meh' by Poch then I'm happy. Two in before the world cup (next Thursday) would be great

It's a weird one, a Meh signing to me that could be a first choice would probably be a full back or defensive midfield.
Wanyama was a 'meh' signing for me but he turned out well for the most part and maybe now considered a 1st choice.

I believe its you who is miscomprehending. Best for that position in terms of hierarchy in the squad, whether 1st 11, squad player, 2nd choice or Kit man.

Yes, "number one choice in the position" implies that it's a player who would start games, rather than first choice signing
