I remember reading about this at the time. Can't really work out why AVB leaving to manage a club would mean him falling out with Mourinho. As Mourinho did exactly the same thing himself when starting out.

Perhaps due to the ageing players at Inter, Jose was simply protecting AVB from getting involved in something very similar to Chelsea. Or maybe due to his relationship with Levy he thought - I will make sure AVB gets back involved in a club that suits him perfectly ;)

That's an interesting way to look at it and might lead one to believe that he'd try for a known striker that he's worked with before.
Yep, that's a damn good point, Berglad.

Generally speaking, I'd love Ade. Love having him here but he's looking for a fair way northwards of 100K. He got goals and, surprisingly, a huge amount of assists. But for the chances that were created for him last season, he should be looking at mid-20 to high-20s in the goals for that sort of money. Bring your price down a little, so we can come to an arrangement without blowing every structure we have out of the water and you'll be getting paid what you're worth and we'll have a damn good striker.

If not, I really don't see this happening. Really grown to like him though, especially as a character. 2 yrs ago, I'd never have though I'd feel affection towards him as a player.

Indeed. Is that the article which spawned all of these Maureen-AVB rift opinions? I don't see why people immediately view that as Muareen trying to fuck AVB over. Maybe, and sit down everyone, this isn't a personal vendetta and Maureen merely thinks, knowing a thing or two about this kind of thing himself (including having personal knowledge of AVB, the atmosphere in the Inter dressing room and the goings on at chelsea), AVB and Inter weren't a good fit.

Not everything is the West Wing or 24.

The article says their relationship broke. It's not us making assumptions

Their relationship broke down. Sure. Does it necessarily mean they're sworn enemies though? Nor does it mean AVB's a bad coach. The article also says this:

However, it is not yet known exactly why Mourinho does not believe Villas-Boas is the man to revive the ailing Nerazzurri.

It's just that for months now I've been hearing about this Maureen-AVB biz termed as a kind of feud. If this the article that spawned all that chatter then I'll have to wait for the autobiographies or Biopics starring George Clooney and Leo Di Caprio until I'm convinced.

I think that's probably right regarding the Inter situation - they apparently did have a falling out of some kind around when AVB left Inter, though. In an interview when he first took the Porto job, he said he and Mourinho don't speak to each other anymore, though AVB said Mourinho's the best manager in the world and he feels Mourinho will go down as the best of all time. It's a pretty interesting wide-ranging talk with an English journalist:

Interesting that he wants a short career, 10-15 years. He'd be retired from coaching before most get started.

how did mourinho and levy get to be "friends" anyways? i've always wondered that

Levy tapped him up after he left Chelsea, wanted him at WHL.
Abramovich heard about this and inserted a severance clause in his contract, ensuring he took no other Premiership management role for 12 months, the cost - £15m.
So, you could say Levy won Mourinho an extra £15m! Then Inter came along with a big offer, the rest is history...

Not signing Adebayor would be a mistake in my opinion. Why risk money on a unknown quantity when we are able to sign someone who had a very good goals and assists record this season. Assuming AVB plays his 4-3-3, he would work perfectly in the centre with his ability to keep the attacks flowing plus he would also be able to fill in for Lennon if injured. This kind of versatility in a front man is rare. The only question mark for me is I am assuming we will be signing another striker as well, if this striker is seen as the main man will Ade be happy not playing every game.

Adebayor + 1 other striker for me.

Problem with Ade he likes to run the channel too much....for us he has been playing more link man then front man....its good and bad ....how many times we find Ade on the left wing with no one to aim a cross to in the center last season

I think with AVB previous stint at Porto , he wants a finisher in the box to finish off the chances....

we were after him before Chelsea got him, got very close to getting him too but he didn't like the DOF system that we had at the time.

Things do change quickly though and maybe AVB doesn't see him fitting the system or thinks their is a better alternative for similar money.

Maybe Ade doesn't fit into this ethos and we are looking at younger options?

If AVB doesn't want Ade then he's really lost his marbles

I'm sure he'd rather have him than sit here with Defoe and Kane, but that doesn't mean that it's his preference. I don't think Ade would fit into the style that AVB will likely want to play. I think it's correct for us to take a good look at the market before we decide to invest heavily in Ade who was good but has never maintained a high level at any club for more than a couple of years. And with a new strict and meticulous manager I could see him being a disaster. Wouldn't be displeased if we signed him though. Just hope we don't because we got someone better.

I believe it was earlier than that. He was approached during the season while he was at Porto. By the end of the year he won the CL with Porto and Chelsea turned with mega money for him and the team
