I’d be worried about the whole defender part if tanganga hadn’t came in the scene and proved to be quality at both right back and cb maybe Jose is right more pressing matters defence can be sorted in the summer

I don’t mind not signing any defenders until the summer, as long as we get a CDM. Any decent CDM will help the existing defence massively.
until we have a DM who can run and tackle the choices in defence are akin to the layout of the deckchairs on the titanic!

If no new defenders this window is the price for signing a quality DM then that seems a sensible trade-off

Not to discredit Tanganga at all, as he's been really good, but surely we aren't really abandoning plans to buy a right back because he did a decent job there against a poor Championship side.

It must be that our RB target/s aren't available until the summer, and we've taken the decision to wait rather than bring in plan B/C/D.

DM does now seem to be the biggest priority along with a CF.
Yes quite. But we are looking at a West Brom player who plays against championship players every week. What's the difference?

Told this morning not looking at defenders this window. Jose thinks he can improve them through training, and the money would be better spent elsewhere

Cheers Trix, as long as we get a DM we should have enough about us but we'd need to keep KWP & Foyth in my opinion in case of injuries.

If you stick an excellent DM in front of any defence then the back 4 all look better than the sum of their parts. Look at the difference Matic has made to Man U, when he was put in as a last resort by Solksjaer.

It's probably more that he did a decent job at RB against Mane and an excellent Liverpool team

He played as the RCB against Liverpool, with Aurier in front/alongside him.

As far as I'm aware Tanganga is a CB and this is the first we've seen of him at RB, so slightly unfair to compare him to a specialist RB in any case.

Anyway in danger of going off topic. I wonder if we'll start to hear some more named targets for midfield and forward positions, if that's where our renewed focus is going to be. A lot will depend on what Jose's preferred system is.

dragon1 on rb: ship sailed on arrons, wba not selling right now, we are in talks with another rb

on only getting loans: not true

All perfectly plausibly. I’m at a point where I’d happily see the season out with Tanganga and Aurier at RV, I’d go as far to say I’d only want to sign an established RB and sell Aurier than any young options as big picture is developing someone like Tanganga, and he’s more likely to learn the game playing regularly at RB than by not playing as 4th or 5th choice CB, even if that ultimately is his position.

Also happy to see Jose wants to coach. We have a lot of options in defence, so spending money elsewhere while hopefully improving the back line shows a bit of forward planning.

I can 100% understand the ITK Trix, after all Aurier has our highest tackle tally for the season almost double what Verts has in second place, he is second next to dele for assists too and genuinely hasn’t played that bad at all since Jose has arrived. I would go as far as to say he has improved quite a bit.

Davies can do a solid job at LB, especially in Jose’s system and the emergence of Tanganga was an incredible addition to the squad.

We have much more pressing issues at DM and ST to address this window.

dragon1 on not talking to defenders (trix' info):
Absolute nonsense we are in talks with defenders , he loves tang tho
I assume Dragon meant to add a full stop between 'absolute nonsense' and 'we are in talks with defenders'?

It doesn’t necessarily go against Trix’s info. We may be talking to defenders, but may also not be pushing hard to being them in THIS window.
