Nothing, perhaps? What boring drivel would you prefer?
Nothing, perhaps? What boring drivel would you prefer?
Not sure if you realise, but we can still play loan players. They're not imaginary.
If Levy was as good at player recruitment as he is at building stadiums we would be prob have Messi up front.Bit concerned Levy isn’t prepared to let it go and get someone in like Campos, plus other tidbit by Hercules re: how Levy tries to over-negotiate with deals.
We do seem very poorly run when it comes to player recruitment, I’ve lost count of times we’ve started seasons with unbalanced squad where we don’t any players of a specific type (defensive midfield comes to mind as has happened before).
A director of football doing the negotiations would fill me with far more confidence then Levy continuing to do this role.
You do realise we are less than 3 weeks into his first transfer window and no other club has made any signings??It’s all a bit sad really. Bring in world class manager to back him like a midtable manager. Might as well brought back Arry. Levy is still trying to make 2011 deals happen in 2020
Great example how DL operates. Say Messi was available on a free, and was 30 years old. Wanted wages of 350k as zero transfer fee. And of 100% image rights etc (can’t find another name as we don’t do image rights in UK). DL would try to negotiate 200k wages, and 150k plus earned by appearances, goals etc. Messi would want those things added on separate. Image rights; DL would want 50%, which is a piss-take. Messi’s advisors may say, we will give you 10%. DL would create another image rights proposal, to attach to LM’s own. Deal would be on brink of collapse, as his sponsors wouldn’t agree.
Say now he has sponsors from Nike. DL would want a say of LM’s existing cherry to do the deal. Leicester would come in, agree to LM’s terms etc. DL hears about it, backs down and agrees to original deal. Agents don’t take DL’s call, and middle man gets told LM thinking about it. He signs for Leicester. DL gets media driven drivel how it wasn’t his fault.
Hope very good insight to how and why we have missed out on many deals. Which makes ITK’s look stupid.
if you want an insight to DL, and how he thinks, then listen to the man himself, from an interview he gave just a month ago:
"“Wouldn’t it be boring if we were guaranteed to be there [in the CL]? Obviously, we aspire to be there every season but there is no guarantee whatever we do. When we are there, we want to go as far as possible in the various competitions but sometimes it is the luck of the draw. We just want to go as far as we can.”'
Compare that to Liverpool Chairman, Tom Werner after liverpool missed out on the league last year ""We obviously didn’t win the league but we’ll be back next year and we’ve got a lot of motivation to win the league next year. I’m excited.”
“As special as last season was for Liverpool, it was bittersweet towards the end. As successful as we were, we didn’t finish the job in the Premier League."
"To have the opportunity to win the Champions League was so special. We came into this experience wanting to win trophies for the team and for our fans. It was really gratifying to witness that in Madrid. It was an extraordinary evening.”
On transfers: “John (W Henry), Mike (Gordon) and I will leave the transfer business to those who know it so well – Jurgen and (sporting director) Michael Edwards....Our role at FSG is to support the manager and the people around him in the best way that we possibly can.”"
The lack of clarity around the desire to actually win is clear in the investment in the squad and results in the pitch. Don't expect things suddenly to change because we have a genuinely world class manager - we will never win major honours with Levy in charge
Edit: for those that think these are the comments made after winning the CL, the leadership at liverpool has been consistent in their ambition:
Here's a quote from Werner in 2011: "I know how sport can have such a great impact on your life and just lift you up. Our dream is to win trophies. We want to have more trophies in our trophy case. I know the joy. I've seen the pictures when you all came back from Istanbul and to see the thousands and thousands of people lining the streets in Liverpool... that is such a dream."
This is him in 2015: "We all know the challenge that we saw when we came into the club five years ago and I think we are proud when we walked into the stadium today and we showed Jürgen the new main stand that is being constructed. Until we win more trophies we won’t be satisfied.”
This is Werner before the final, in mid-may 2019 "You don't get a lot of roses for coming in second. Our focus is on bringing that trophy back to Liverpool this year. I remember when we locked in our position as one of the top four teams qualifying for the Champions League for next season, some people almost took it for granted because our goal really all year was to actually win the league.”
John Henry before Liverpool lost to Madrid in the final in 2018: “We can … outspend other clubs throughout Europe,”
It’s all a bit sad really. Bring in world class manager to back him like a midtable manager. Might as well brought back Arry. Levy is still trying to make 2011 deals happen in 2020
JM wasn’t immediately going to come out and say the players are shit and I need money to spend!World class manager who stated straight off the bat that he was happy to work with the players at his disposal.
JM wasn’t immediately going to come out and say the players are shit and I need money to spend!
Not really good for morale when trying to get players to buy into his plans.
This is demonstrably wrong: Liverpool and Watford have both made signings, Minamosa and Pussetto respectively. And your spamming historical posts I've made for disagreeing for you doesn't make you less wrong it just makes you look petulant. You do realise we are less than 3 weeks into his first transfer window and no other club has made any signings??
It’s only 9.47amWell this was a bloody depressing read this morning
Interest in Dwight McNeil is hotting up. He won’t move in this window but will likely move in the summer. We are at the front of the queue but have to compete with Juventus and Man Utd who are both very interested. Just need to hope they aren’t as interested as us. Really really good player.
