If one of the German sides linked offer £20m for VDV then I can see him being sold. VDV turns 30 next year and his price will begin to go down rapidly. Personally I would not want it to happen. However it all depends on how much there is to spend. If the money is required in order to go towards buying strikers then am ok with the sale. However if there is enough money already within kitty to purchase strikers then I can't really see the logic. The ideal scenario for me would be for us to sign Oscar and gradually introduce him instead of VDV this season (plenty of games plus question marks over VDV's fitness at times) and then sell VDV next summer when Oscar is hopefully ready to be fully first choice. Again all this is dependent on how much money Levy is giving AVB.

His value may well go down, but it probably shouldn't. He is about the least athletic player in the top flight. He completely replies on his skill on the ball and vision. He could very easily be like Giggs and play until his mid or even late thirties unless he gets seriously injured.

But you're forgetting that VdV already has injury problems with his hamstrings, I believe. The reason why he struggles to complete games for us.

If he's struggling at age 28/29, there's absolutely no chance on this earth that he'll be able to keep going for another 10 years like Giggs, who is a very fit individual.

I love Rafa. I think he's our best player and also has the best attitude and winning mentality in the squad at the moment. But if a club in Europe were to offer £15m+, I think he'll be allowed to leave, and perhaps rightly so. We'd have gotten two great years out of him and managed to double our money all before he starts to seriously decline in fitness. From a financial perspective, it makes perfect sense.

And if we do get this Oscar kid, who I know literally nothing about in fairness, then he and Gylfi will be here to play Rafa's position for the next 5+ years, so selling Rafa now would also make sense from a long term planning point of you.

With all that said, I'd still be absolutely gutted if that does happen.

you can't get many World Class players who would want to play for a non-CL club noawadays though. VDV is, and always has been our talisman, selling him would be a mistake in my opinion. Plus although he may not have the pace or the acceleration to continue at this level, he more than makes up for this with his ability to pick out that 'special' pass, the positioning to be in the right places to score, and the wizardery to trick opposition defenses, and finally the experience of having played at the very top top level with Madrid and the likes. You cant buy all that and Class, which he has . #just sayin
