My biggest worry for Benteke is Arsenal. I worry they get turned away one too many times for Suarez (if that is indeed their main target now) and shift to Benteke. You can claim Benteke and Giroud are similar (which I don't really agree with), but I don't think it would stop them especially due to the fact that if Higuain/Suarez reject them, then Benteke could become the next best choice.

It's why I'm hoping we get this squared away before Arsenal are up shit's creek without a paddle. We've been burnt far too many times by pussyfooting around or simply getting gazumped at the last minute.

Its all a game of musical chairs at the moment. The one thing I don't get is why Man City havent been linked more strongly with Higuain themselves. Pellegrini managed Gonzalo at Madrid, and the striker had decent form under his stewardship. Higuian is most definitely better than Negredo, imo, even though I like Negredo. Maybe Jovetic is their real target and not Negredo.

You are right, we need to act fast on Benteke, if that is who we want, so our striker situation is 'squared away'. Hopefully, City then take Higuain from Arsenal and Arsenal and Liverpool are further damaged with a drawn out Suarez debacle.

The one wildcard to me is Ibrahimovic. Is there room for Cavani and Ibra ? I'd say probably because Cavani can play wide in a 4-3-3, but if Ibra becomes available that may alter the landscape in the PL striker hunt and indirectly affect us in one way or another.

Yep. Plus every single possible deal (with the exception of Lloris) that we've been linked to in the past that I allowed myself to get excited over, ended up going the way of the dodo. Forlan, Suarez, Vucinic, Moutinho, Villa....

I'm trying to generate some excitement over the possibility of signing Benteke, but it's just not working. I might try hypnosis.

I keep hope on a very short leash. Then it it doesn't run away with you. Or bite you!

To be honest from what I've been hearing won't be tied up this week. But could advance quickly. That's not sitting on the fence, I don't think it will be this week.

Think the goons have other fish to fry. Hoping them fish get burnt. And they get Carlton Cole.

Yes I went there a Carlton Cole joke.

Doesn't Lamela play the position as Bale though? Wide-right forward? Plus he would be with £25m+ not happening.

Higuain as an alternative to Benteke seems semi-plausible. Although wages will be an issue .

Lamela started playing RF at Roma.
At River, he made his debut as a LW, and later played in his natural position that is CAM

Either way, he was bought for 20m, I can't imagine how much he will cost now

I can definitely see a signing out of the blue.

I think Baldini has his options that maybe one will come into fruition.

Like a Vucinic/Marchisio type of signing from the serie a.

Its happend before with Modric,Dembele (i think) Berba, Postiga etc.

No matter what come match day against Crystal Palace i am going to be so optimistic for this season. I think we will all be very satisfied with our signings.

Still cant believe we got Paulinho!! Huge signing that!! :)

(David) Villa would have no reason to insult Levy or the team if he wasn't mad at what went on. Can't fake a quote.

Yup David Villa is an angel and is totally incapable of telling lies even if they were meant to please his new fans and to convince those fans he did not join them out of convience.

I miss the rolling eyes emoticon.

Would any fan base be excited by how quickly their team does business? If he wanted to please his new fans, wouldn't he say "there was a much better offer from Tottenham, but once Atletico came calling I could not say no"? Instead he went out of his way to say the premier league clubs were dicking around. Almost as if he was angry at them as opposed to trying to appease the new fans. Thus, I respectfully disagree with your assessment.
