villa plus wages would equal Benteke plus wages over three years

Would it? Villa was being touted as 120k per week which is 6.24m per year. Over 3 years that is 18.72m & 4.4m Transfer fee (assuming he meets the bouses) and that is 23.12m, which is just under what people are speculating Benteke's fee alone would be.

I think Benteke would probably ask for around 80k per week (would get at least 60k) which is 3.12M (60k) to 4.16m (80k) per year.

No I didn't mean Suarez was average. In an earlier post I listed him as one of the players I really wanted us to sign when he was at Ajax. He's phenomenal. It was just another opportunity to have a dig at Lolerpool.

I wouldn't get too excited about Benteke anyway. We'll miss out on him, and our back-up, and our back-up back-up, and end up bringing in Frazier fucking Campbell on loan with no option to buy.

Waaaaaaa

Just saw this quote which I think is good news, at least from the point of view that Villa won't leave it late to accept a deal for him...they obviously don't want their plans and pre season totally fucked by this. Which means Levy will have to act fast. This will either happen relatively quickly or we'll move on I reckon:

Having received his transfer request, we have also informed him that should we receive an offer within an appropriate timeframe during pre-season which meets our valuation we would act upon it. But he will remain a Villa player should this not happen.’

You think that Suarez is only an average or slightly above average player?

As for Bent, I don't think he ever looked like a world beater at Charlton. He was decent and scored a lot of goals for them. That's about it. Personally I find Benteke's overall contribution to be light years beyond the capacity of a player like Bent (hence the latter not getting so much as a look in ahead of the former last season).

See the above post.

Bent scored a lot of goals for a poor Charlton team. He obviously impressed enough for us to shell out £16m.

I keep coming back to Kenwyne Jones though. I thought he looked fantastic in that one season for Stoke, and we ended up being quoted £25m for him. Since then he's proved to be less than spectacular player. As I've said, I'm not saying Benteke won't become a great player, but right now he's a risk.

Agree with this! I think they will want it sorted before they get back from germany! I got a feeling more info will come out in next few days from the agent or club/clubs involved!

On the contrary, I think that their selling prices are slightly on the low side and this comes from being financially weak. Look at how much teams like Porto, Shakthar extract for their players because they are rich and don't need to sell. Silva and Mata were both finite talents, probably the most highly rated available AMs in Europe at the time and at perfect ages of low 20s - Silva went for £24m to a Man City who were overpaying for all kinds of players at the time, and Mata for £23m at a price that we were very much interested in. Both of those players went for undervalued prices and Valencia could have extracted more out of the likes of Chelsea and City if they had been financially great. Modric, Willian etc etc these guys go for 30m +

With Soldado being a bit older, and them still being in poor health, it could be possible to get him below his actual value.
Fair enough, but they are not going to sell someone who scored 30 goals last season for under £25m.

I would prefer Lukaku, but doubt Chelsea would sell him to us.

Promise him game time and he'd forget his trouble with AVB.

I agree its still a risk given the fee. I know we've discussed this before but for me Jones never had that sort of ability to his overall game. Scored some tasty goals but was never impressed with his all round game.

In fact at the time I wanted Crouch over Jones!

Agreed. I am sure that once AVB apologised & explained how much his style has changed since moving on he would have no problems playing for us (with the promise of first team football).

The biggest problem would be Chelsea selling. The only way that would happen is if Mourinho and Levy have a good relationship as some have suggested, they get Benteke and Lukaku kicks off about too much competition.

That will never happen, but we can dream.

Is Benteke even the sort of player AVB would want?

That's the million dollar question in all of this, and until we know how he feels, it's not worth getting too excited over. I would also expect Baldini to have a few ideas on strikers as well. Doubt we brought him in to fish the PL waters.

We compare him with Bent, but we got our money back with Bent.

I can't see anyone else on the horizon. Doubt Soldado will leave Valencia for us. Go for it.

Why dont we hijack Bony first then decide on Benteke?

We should. We probably could get Bony, Emre Can, Jedvaj & Rebic for the price it would cost to get Benteke.

Then Sell Defoe, Parker, Hudd and maybe Dempsey and bring in Bernard. Perfect.

We are massively losing perspective here.

Benteke is not worth close to 20m.

Dont get desperate people. It's easy to spend the clubs money but if we spent that money on Benteke we would never see it again.

Imagine we broke out transfer record for him. Feels like Darren Bent all over again. 1 good season and the press set the transfer fee. Nonsense.

For that kind of money we could actually go and buy Damiao and probably have money left over.

There are good itks and bad ones. It's obvious that even some of the so-called respected ones piggy back off the actual itks.

Lets just relax and keep some perspective

No it's not, just ask one D. Levy.

If we do get him expect that he will do to us what he has done to Villa and Genk (if successful).
