i don't see the need for defoe if we get villa.

Same here. I mentioned earlier that Villa and Adebayor make a ton of sense as a primary striker tandem. Villa obviously the primary striker but Adebayor against taller sides where maybe a little more physical presence up top is needed. Hopefully, given their age, we will also be looking for the striker of the future as well.

I'll cry if we end up with only Villa and keep Defoe & Ade.
I don't see the need for Defoe full stop but you need players/cover.
We've bitched about having no strikers for so long that people forget: if we ended up with Defoe, Adebayor plus one decent starting striker, we'd be in pretty good shape overall and will have improved.

But if Villa gets injured or doesn't perform then we're stuck with Defoe who had a derisory last 20 games and Ade who only turned up for the last 3 games.

I could live with Villa, Ade and Defoe as the three attacking options for next season. Would rather get shot of one of the latter two and get in someone younger like PEA, but hoping some genuine competition and Villa's class would rub off on the other two.

So in fact we would be relying on an injury prone, over the hill striker backed up by two drama queens who couldn't score twenty goals between them last season. Makes sense i guess................

I think this is the most likely scenario. For me, we need two strikers because I don't think Ade will respond to having to fight for his place but I can't see us signing two.

Yeah, true but i've no qualms about Adebayor he's a very talented footballer and we generally play far better with him involved, i'd sell Defoe in a shot, but only if we've got a quality upgrade,
I'm more interested in solving the other anonymous positions so that when Lennon or Dempsey are on a 'contribute nothing' kinda day it won't matter cos they'll be on the bench and an acclimatised Holtby or Bernard or whomever are tearing up the opposition.

2/3 quality players in attacking positions and we'll be laughing.

Sometimes it's simple: David Villa has won everything in the game and regularly started for the dominant national side of the era.
He would enhance the squad.

Klinsmann did a job, and though i cannot remember his age when he joined us he was hardly a young un. I'd like to think that Levy and Baldini are looking towards the medium to long term therefore Villa and a.n.other (Leandro) would be piss perfect for this club. Defoe can go, and keep Ade in rotation (no other sill bugger would be stupid enough to buy him anyway). The sale of Defoe would go a long way to buying Villa and would certainly benefit the club on and off the pitch.

So based on Villa's record at Barca last season against the teams in La Liga how many goals would we expect from him next season in the Premiership?
5-10
11-15
16-20
21+
Which one of these would justify the wages he'll undoubtedly expect?
Is he the best we can get?
I would hope these are the sort of questions being asked by the club.

59 but i have included the EL,CC and FA Cup. A bit strong on the number i know but i poured as much energy and thought into answering the question as you did of dreaming it up.

Don't worry we won't be bringing in Villa as our sole striker signing, Defoe is available to the most suitable offer so we are looking at more than just Villa.

Not much at all then.
Klinsmann was 29 that's two years younger and Villa has never been anywhere near as good as Klinsmann.

Klinsmann did a job?! That's probably the biggest understatement I've ever heard.

beh. i go gaming for some hours and theres no new itk :/
Some bloke on Glory Glory who claims to be ITK suggests that we won't be signing Paulino within a week.

Given that he's playing in Brasil, I think we're all ITK enough to know he won't be signing within a week either.

Ergo

Bugger all since you were last here.
