Well actually not all of us, I didn't want him. Yes he scored 17goals. Jesus, did you see how many he should of had? He probably missed 2/3 sitters a game. Also it was pretty much nailed on he would play like a donkey after he had his pay off from city and a nice new one from us.

That's why I said "Or at least there weren't that many complaints". There's always going to be a few that have a different opinion. It's not a matter of opinion though, Ade is a striker. It's a fact and even if you did't rate him, you would have counted him as a striker when we signed him.

How many should he have scored on top of his total 28 goals/assists? 40? 50? 60? Not realistic. But I don't want to debate Ade's ability anyway, it's totaly irrelevant to the original post I replied too and this is the ITK thread after all.

What we should be doing, if we can't sign that £20m guaranteed hit, is signing the likes of Benteke for £7m. Take a punt. Not a £50m Torres punt that Chelsea likes, that's obviously suicide for us but there are strikers with a great deal of potential out there to be had for prices that won't bring the walls crashing down around us should they turn out to be utter plop.

Hopefully with Baldini now installed we'll see a couple of those players signed in the future windows.

I too want to see evidence of a Baldini signing this season, even if it's an unproven/unheard of kid... It's what I hoped he would bring to us... So far our targets aside from Jedvaj/Halilovic have been pretty 'well-known' and established. Let's see what happens by September 2nd.

Thing is: the whole 'Moneyball' style doctrine says strikers are the worst value transfers.
And we've got value hunter Chief Dan Levy in charge: a man so careful that if you offered him heads or tails he'd be after a piece of the action on both sides of the coin. ;)

These kind of players are heading to Swansea (Bony), Norwich (Ricky vW/ Redmond) and Cardiff (Cornelius). One of them would be worth to have around I think. Maybe we can do sth with some spanish guys (Morata, Rodrigo eg?)

Makes it all the more peculiar for him to suddenly get a horn on for £20m strikers or nothing these last few windows.

You do have to wonder why we haven't invested in a young striker over the last few years doesn't need to be expensive

No way Benteke is a smoke screen. The fact that he put in a transfer request all but proves that his agent has been working behind the scenes and there is a team making a move for him. Add that to the fact that JJ has all but confirmed we are the team, I highly doubt that we would go through the trouble of tapping up a player to the point of him submitting a transfer request all as a smoke screen.

I also find this whole "he has only proved it one year in the Prem" crowd laughable. Currently, with our buying power and club stature, we can't afford to wait around for strikers who have proven it year in and year out as their prices double and we get priced out, while the monster clubs in the game go in for them. We also get the "he is not Premier League proven" crowd for foreign strikers, so here we have a foreign player who moved into the league and proved himself his first year, and we are still saying he is unproven. Tough crowd to please. I will say this, there is no sure thing Striker that Tottenham will be able to sign this year, no matter who we go in for it is going to be a massive gamble. I would rather take that gamble on a 22 year old w/ the physical tools of Benteke than an aging player in his upper twenties.

Good post. Agree with all of this as well.

Coulibaly?
I think mill means a happy compromise. Not a £20m uber-striker or an embryonic starlet. Just a young striker, late teens or early 20's who could at the least be an immediate squad player with room to improve.

sigh.:(

I'm fairly certain we'll be complaining why we didn't sign Bony or RVW by Christmas.

Rumours in Brazillian press Inter's DOF is claiming to have turned down a bid for Damiao from Napoli, interesting to see if it has anything to do with us. I remember ITK saying he wasn't the priority; now Villa is gone and Benteke could prove too rich for our blood...

We might see ANOTHER saga with Damiao begin.

I'm surprised no one bigger went for cornelius. Surely for £7 million he would have been worth a punt.
