The struggling to get rid of players element is worrying. I imagine there are some on high wages who aren't willing to give that up easily.
Think you're right. Every player who we have been told is trying to be offloaded is linked with clubs who simply cannot offer the wages we can. It's such a shame as like the players who are staying or signing new contracts, I'm sure those surplus to requirements would also love to continue working under Pochettino.

Is nice not to write off Chadli but for him to become not just decent but a match winner for a top four club, which is what we aspire to would be a massive leap and I just can't see it.

I'd love us to sign him, I really think he'll develop into a quality player and already looks a player who can offer a lot. I actually think he'd develop more with better players around him than at OM. That said I'm pretty sure they don't want to sell him and would be looking for a big fee if they did
All that aside the link has hardly raised a ripple, no one commenting one way or the other and I am a bit surprised by that

Thauvin is interesting but he would play where Lamela plays fundamentally (ARM). Player I like there at marseille is Payet, I flagged him up when he was with Lille. Great little player, would fit the ALM role perfectly too.

But has Thauvin actually been linked by ITK? By our own admission he hasn't it is press speculation. Therefore it should be elsewhere? Just my onions what what it's worth.

Watched over some vids of Chadli from last season and there is obvious and exceptional talent in there somewhere, just needs to be unlocked and I'm certain Poch is the man for the job.
I think the problem with Chadli last year, was under AVB, he played too far wide, so couldn't connect with the other forwards so most of his time was spent holding up the ball waiting for a team mate to pass to (which he did well). In that situation you need speedy wingers that can beat a man race to the line and cross in, which Chadli can do but isn't he game. Then with Sherwood, he spent most of the time either wide in a 4-4-2 or in a CM2.

IMO, Chadli has the attributes required to succeed in Poch's front 4 and he add's something different the others who can play in the 3 don't with his strength, areal ability and ability to hold up the ball, offering us a early long ball option when needed to mix up the play. I hope he starts against Schalke.

Good post that sums up exactly the reality of the situation. The guy is a powerhouse with tremendous skill, passing and shooting too.

I imagine even Ronaldo and Messi would look like fish trying to swim in mashed potato if they played under AVB or Shitwood.

Agree on all accounts. To add to it, Chadli's defensive contribution was solid as well. I'm a huge believer in Chadli, and happy to see ITK rubbishing him leaving. He is also in fact rather pacey, despite some fans claiming that he lacks pace. I'd want him over a new foreign gamble like ie Depay or Konoplyanka.

If we are going by last years performances, you would have to say the same about Lamela (in fact our whole squad apart from Lloris, Ade & Eriksen).

I like Chadli as he add's something different to our front 3. He is a god all rounder (can dribble, cross, pass, hold up the ball, good long shot etc) and I think he fits the squad well with Eriksen, Lamela & Holtby all adding something a bit different, whilst at the same time all have the fundamentals to succeed in Poch's attacking mid 3. The one thing we are missing is a player who has pace, can dribble, has good off the ball running, likes to get in behind the defence and had good end product, Griezmann would have been awesome (though would have preferred a player with more pace in an ideal world) ditto Rodriquez, if he fully recovers.

For me the question marks are around Lennon (although he has been good in pre-season) and Townsend.

Yes, I don't understand why people claim he is slow. When I watched Depay on you tube vids, CHadli looks faster than him, yet Depay is described by people on here as pacey.

Chadli can play across all three forward positions, he can shoot and he's ours, He fits the system Poch plays so I think it's too soon to write him off.

I think we could also benefit from not signing too many players - we're seemingly building from the back, lets see what the man can get out of our forward line this year, build on that as we go on.

Also this brings me back to what Lambert said about Lallana. How Pochettino's training methods helped Lallana gain a yard of pace. If that happens to Chadli (others too) then we'd have a serious threat in our squad.

Anyone making a definitive 'they're great/they're shit' opinion on the seven signings from last season based purely on what they saw on the pitch last season should really hold fire. We spent the first half in a tactical straightjacket then the second half running tactically naked down the street.

They all deserve the Poch magic wand at least before or if they're getting shipped out.

It's not his pace, although he's not exactly a player with real pace, but his whole play is slow, it lacks sharpness, he seems to take a long time to weigh up a lot of situations and react to them.
To me that's his problem and unless he can improve his sharpness he'll continue to struggle to make more than a cover player in the PL

This quote from Poch is encouraging.

"My philosophy is to give freer style with good organisation and not only with Erik, with other players."
