Nor is spending 26m on a 28yo. What - and this is a big what if - a deal had already been agreed. Notice we haven't pursued any other LB's ?

I'm not saying this with any massive conviction, but I find it more plausible than the whole "all the stars have aligned and after 11 years Joe Lewis has suddenly decided he wants to win the league" stuff.

Bale is being protected from injury. Why, if we want to keep him, would we be worried about him getting injured ?

Are you serious? Why would we worry about our players getting injured?

I agree BC, but I thought you were of the opinion that we wouldn't do too much more business if we sold Bale now ie we had done our reinvesting in the main??

No, just think that the spending we have been doing is intrinsically linked to the Bale situation. Not Joe Lewis suddenly having an attack of the to dare is to do's.

Yes and I agree with that.

It was always a romantic notion in my mind.

I think Lamela and Eriksen would be outstanding business.

I didn't explain that very well. I don't believe he is inured, I believe he is being protected from injury. If we wanted to keep him, we would play him regardless of the risk of injury, knowing that the very worst case scenario would be injury would virtually guarantee he wouldn't be transferred.

Do you think we'll spend any of the Bale cash on a replacement?

I think we've already spent a chunk of it on replacing what he brought during his best season. 21 goals and 4 assists. Soldado & Chadli could cover that alone. If you add in Paulinho, Capoue, Coentrao and one or two of Lamela, Eriksen, Willian (or similar calibre) then I genuinely believe we will be a much stronger team than if we'd just kept Bale and not done any of that business.

That's a fair point, but you do also have to take into account the goals of the players our additions will be replacing. So, the amount of goals Soldado will score in comparison to Defoe/Adebayor. The amount of goals Chadli might score over Dempsey/Siggy (As they primarily manned the LW/LF role). So on and so forth. It's not just about replacing Bale. It's about replacing the players with our new additions with enough quality that in the end the difference in quality/goals provides us with improvements at their positions while making up for the loss of Bale.

If we could add Coentrao and Lamela we'd have an incredible team. In fact at this stage I could live with the only remaining transfer activity being Bale going and Lamela coming in. Anything else is a bonus.

I think Coentrao, Lamela and a young CB like Ilori or a late move for Chiriches would be incredible. Maybe try to find another bargain deal at the end of the window after our sales of other players are complete as well.

I agree that if we bring in Coentrao, Eriksen +1 then we will be stronger squadwise with or without Bale than last season just after past windows have my doub't of us getting the deals over the lines. So far what we have done has been very impressive and feels different to normal windows but i will believe it once its on the OS, my fear is that our spending is done and Bale still go and then in my view we would be weaker.

Coentrau and Lamela but Eriksen would really be the icing on the cake for me and he's so gettable. The defence still worries me a bit. Especially if we don't get Coentrao and Kaboul's injury plays up but a front 6 of:

Paulinho Capoue/Sandro Dembele
Lamela Soldado Chadli
or
Paulinho/Dembele Capoue/Sandro
Lamela Eriksen Chadli
Soldado
Is pretty fucking tasty isn't it ?

yeah looks very good to me, not convinced at home against the lesser sides we want to be going with the first formation and the 2nd one would offer us much better chance of breaking teams down when they are sat deep. is the variety we lacked last season

Did Eriksen not demand CL football yesterday ?

I do like all the players we are being linked to, but I just imagined Bale and Soldado together this season. I cant help but fret slightly at the notion of our entire front three having played zero PL games. They might be quality but they all need a little time to adapt. Its the difference between having a tilt at 3rd or above this season, or battling with Arsenal for 4th whilst our players aclimitize.

Doesn't seem like any CL clubs are in for him, surely he'd be gone already considering his low price?

So far RM dont seem to be able to meet the payment demands and hence no official bid as far as I see it. Until they are able to secure credible financing, I doubt Levy wants to sell and take the risk of bad debt.

I think Bale cannot leave this summer unless RM unload Di Maria or Ozil. They cannot even settle Ronaldo new contract.

Pauliniho, chadli, soldado, capoue, lamela, and erikson for the price of bale would be outstanding business of it happened.

And to think of my scummer mates taking the piss that bales gone. We will be a better team for it.and not relying on one man to win us games every week.

Ronaldo is probably waiting on how much Bale will earn as I think he wants to be highest earner at RM.
I think it is bye bye Bale.
Man U is interested in Modric and others in RM sp that could raise some cash.
I think it is installments + player (FC) for Bale and has been agreed.
Now for Willian or Eriksen or Lamela - I believe any 1 or 2 of the 3.
I know that Eriksen was told to sit tight and wait...maybe by next week, we'll definitely know now.

I wonder if we might buy Eriksen to mold him into a player similar to Willian. He's got a similar skillset, albeit less consistent (which is a moot point as most 21 year olds are, and if he weren't we would have no shot at getting him). Eriksen and Lamela would be pretty solid.
