although his excuse was that the whole pitch was full of oceans is a bit suspect..

He did, but also some fouls were given as dives and there is that grey area of 'avoiding contact'. If you get to see Goals on Sunday, they go on about this all the time and quote Cristiano Ronaldo 'how do I know the centre back is going to take his foot away?' when he is running at full speed and expecting to be smashed in the shin. He jumps, there's no foul and he looks silly. It's not necessarily a dive.

Tough for refs, you can see why genuine fouls are missed when players are out to con the ref every time and fans/media cry for fouls/bookings/penalties - there is a middle ground that is ignored.
