I played on Monday and was the opposite. First few holes I could barely hit the ball in the air, was +18 after 6, then remembered how to play golf and was +9 for the remaining 12. Makes no sense whatsoever....
I had a free round at my course on Monday and was ok on the front 9. Back 9 i developed a horrible pull and was losing a ball on pretty much every hole! Hopefully sorted that last night on the range ?

Yeah i turned my slice into a draw but now it has evolved into a pull.

Hopefully i sorted it yesterday though as i noticed i had a bit of a fly away right arm, so tucked in my right elbow and i didn't pull for the rest of the round.

strangly it was only affecting my irons, woods and fairway woods still pretty much straight. (which in this weather is great)

Thats exactly what i was doing i think. Focused on that yesterday and other than the odd hook i didn't hit anything left of target.

A few Fridays ago I had a round for the first time since September. Blobbed the first two holes but came in with 31 stableford points which I was happy with. Played off of 18. Was down to 14 when I played regularly.

Played earlier. Fucking hot

Shot a 78. 6 over front nine, 1 over on the back - 37 points with a blob!

Was a new course for me as well. Banstead Downs. Pretty decent. Some nice driving holes, plenty of fairway bunkers and some good par 3's

Greens were great too. Cold beer in the car park from the cool box after. Good stuff

Bryson Dechambeau has just won another tournament and seems to be heading for world #1. He uses clubs pretty much all the same length so that the swing doesn't change, his putter is clamped to his left arm to just below the elbow so that everything is 'locked', eliminating extraneous movement. And in the enforced 'off season' he has put on at least 20 pounds of muscle so that he's now built like a brick shithouse and can drive the ball close to 400 yards.

I have to say I hate it. He looks like a beefed-up ball-hitting robot straight from the club manufacturers r&d dept.

Should we applaud it? Is it even the same game played by Seve and Tom Watson? Should the rules change to shift the balance back, or is this the future?

Not a fan although unfortunately he’s compulsive viewing off the tee

When many players are regularly hitting it 320+ and Bryson hits that through the air then it’s not the same game

If your hitting wedge into par 4s and 7/8/9 iron into par5's for your second shot nearly the entire time then the game has gone

For me the hardest and most skilful part of the game is the long approach shot to a well defended green with a 4i or longer

Today’s modern technology along with the players diet, strength training & fitness have changed the game

I’d like to see the ball changed for the professional game so they can’t hit it so far. Either that or building ditches across fairways from 300-350 yards

It’s like watching Happy Gilmour.
Trouble is all you can do is either change the balls so they don’t fly as far or start making more hazards actually on the fairway, it’s not like he’s personally done anything wrong.
Either that or he’s got to use an airflow ball, probably still hit it further of the tee than most of us!

All you need to do is grow the rough, make the penalty for errant tee shots more severe and they'll have to think twice about whether it's worth the risk of grabbing the driver on the tee. The best part of this 'plan' is that is doesn't cost the golf industry / courses a penny/cent, every single course is capable of just letting the grass grow. No need for equipment or ball modifications at all.

In other news...I shot an 81 followed by a 77 this weekend (nett 63 and 59 respectively - 18 handicap). Progress! (y)
Progress...?? That's bandit territory!

My game has gone to shit, I have gone from 12 to 15 in 2 years despite playing regularly and no sign of dropping anytime soon, just cannot get the blobs off my card.

Oh how I know your pain. Played off 9 for years now struggling off 15.

Managed to get out the last 2 Sundays now and hoping to make it at least once a week to play and maybe an hour or so on the range midweek.

Shot 90 in the medal last week, my first game back and couldnt stop hitting the ball left. Managed to correct it on the 17th hole by fixing my alignment so that was nice.

Headed up a bit earlier this morning to hit some shots on the range before going out and was hitting it fairly nice if still a bit left.

Ended up with 32 points with two blanks so it wasn't too bad but I could have easily finished with 36-40 points with a bit more practice and a bit of luck too.

My wife got me a ShotScope GPS watch for Christmas and had it on today for the first time. Having distances to front, middle and back really makes a a difference for club selection but the joy of this one is it collates my shots and I can get stats on to my phone straight away after I finish my round.

What I took from today was that although I'm hitting plenty of fairways and the ball is travelling for me (averaged 270 yards today off the tee with no run after the rain over here), my approach shots need work as I'm not hitting enough greens, so I know what I need to focus on when I go to practice.

Thanks all, yeah it's good to make real progress. I've never been long (that's what she said!), maybe 220yds off the tee, but i work a tonne on 150yds and in, and have seen massive improvements there, which gives me loads of birdie/par chances. Also moved to a 3 piece ball for the 1st time recently and the difference is massive.

I am expecting a decent sized hcap cut soon, which doesn't scare me anymore, I'd be fine off 14 or 15.

If I could just sort my putting out...! :banghead:

I've got the opposite issue, in the medal on Saturday I hit 6 drives over 280 (Garmin S60 for anyone looking for a new GPS), but only hit 3 GIR, was absolutely awful from 100 yards in.
