The best bit is it took just 90 mins for the consensus to go from

"fucking outrageous we haven't signed a RB, someone needs to pay for this clusterfuck"

to

"no need. Save £25m and put it towards positions where it's needed".

Never change, SC

Guardian comment section:
"Fun fact: in the last seven seasons, Spurs have produced more first-team youngsters called Kyle Walker than Man City have produced first-team youngsters."

:ROFLMAO:

A very accomplished performance by the lad today. Grew with confidence as it went on today. Good lad

Anyone else think it might be a bit risky/too soon to play him against Chelsea next week?

He put in a great performance, but it was against Newcastle. I just think the Chelsea game might be a bit too soon for him.

He had a good game today but as he plays more we will see more what he is about in the final third

As for Chelsea, I would play a back 3 with Dier and KWP as a wingback, him against alonso with Wanyama in the middle

I agree with this. I thought Newcastle made a mistake continually punting it in his direction, as despite Atsu looking dangerous, KWP is strong one on one to me. On the other hand, I think he drifts inside far too easily during general play (maybe concentration) opening up that side completely. Today its fine, but against a hazard/Alonso, sane/mendy, sanchez/kolisanic double attack, with one cutting inside opening up the wing back out wide, i'd be concerned. So a back 3 for me, as extra cover.

Only worry with a back three is that Wanyama still looks a bit off-the-pace if he starts as the holding midfielder so Dier can move back.

Really enjoyed KWP debut. It was a competent performance but on as easy a day as you will get in the premier league. Its not a typical performance that will get us top 4. He has to continue to build confidence to show us the full repertoire of his attacking talent before I can say he's ready for a regular first team start. Thankfully Poch is making the decisions and will develop him gradually. I'm sure we're still in the market for another RB.

Pochettino used football.london but we're fine with it

'Is Kyle Walker-Peters ready to start against Newcastle United next week Mauricio?' football.londonasked the Spurs boss after the Juventus friendly at Wembley. The Spurs boss shook his head and explained that the player was 'so young' and it was too much to ask to throw him into that situation.

Fast forward eight days and Walker-Peters not only starts against Newcastle, but he impresses everyone with his debut.

So of course we had to ask the manager what had changed in the space of a week?

With a big smile he used his favourite excuse of his English not being so good before admitting to football.london: "He is so young and I tried to avoid that, because in my mind he was nearly 99 per cent to play today. But if I told you he would play it's a massive pressure on him and sometimes it's to avoid that."

So we were played, we were used, but with the ploy doing it's job to perfection and Walker-Peters excelling on his debut and Spurs winning, we were quite happy to be part of Pochettino's tactics ahead of the game on this occasion.

Is this still going on?

Pochettino even explained in his BBC post match interview that the reporters had all misunderstood him. He hadn't said it was too soon for KWP, and that he wouldn't play. He'd said he couldn't be first choice all season like Trips, but would get chances. It wasn't even hard to get that from the quotes, as I've shown in this thread.

He did good. Didn't look nervous on his senior debut. He has a good turn of pace and strength to go with it.

There were times where he was caught out of position but Dembele did a great job tracking over that side. Still early days for him but a performance that will only build his confidence.

Do we have a Danny Rose-Peters in the academy anywhere?

Maybe Poch is playing it clever here. Saying he's not playing when in fact he will do. Just keeping the pressure off him, keeping Newcastle guessing as to how we are to line up and also to ensure they don't target him.

Not often I get something right. Glad he picked him though but I hope Trippier is back for Chelsea as I think his delivery will really cause the chavs problems.
