I wanted us to lose games under Sherwood to make sure we got him out of the club. It was terrible going to games and he was embarrassing the club. That’s the only time I wanted us to lose, but I would again if it meant it was for the greater good of the club like it was then.

The greater good maybe just to stick with a manager who's been here for 5 years and allow him to rebuild the team...

Hopefully Poch doesn’t bring back Winks back in. Last night was really positive but only because he finally played the midfield that we’ve been requesting all season.

What’s the betting he brings Winks and Eriksen back in...sigh

Last night we saw a midfield that was on the same wavelength and can pass forward. GLC and Ndombele are first team picks every single game and for me Sissoko gets the nod over Winks. We need to sign a top DM and then that three in midfield would look superb.

Winks squad player like he always should have been. You can see when Ndombele and GLC played last night what proper quality in midfield looks like. Winks doesn’t have it.

I have to agree with this.

Our result last night was positive and whilst it was only Red Star, Sissoko and Ndombele are really starting to click as a duo. We completely dominated the midfield for most of the game, the forward play by both Sissoko and Ndombele was sublime. I don't know if anyone else noticed it but Sissoko's forward passes are getting better match by match.

Unfortunately I don't see a place for Winks in our starting line-up, especially if we keep the same 11 that started last night. I genuinely believe it is our strongest 11 at the moment.

How you feeling now? I know you was wavering a bit but sounds like you're backing Poch. I reckon a few felt like the players stopped playing for him but recent weeks has shown he has the majority still willing to turn up and play.

A good performance and win on Saturday and I might start to believe again. However, I’m expecting Eriksen to play and for us to drop points.

Either way we just need to ride this season out. We’re not going to get relegated and if we finish 8th or something I think he should have the next 2 windows to try and sort this shower out. I just wish he’d freeze out Eriksen and whatever other ***** that don’t want to play for the chicken badge.

I've set my expectations with Poch, Levy isn't going to sack him anytime soon so I'm 100% behind him and want him to succeed.

Doesn't mean he's exempt from criticism, I will call him out when he does something I don't agree with like picking players who don't deserved to get picked but ultimately if he shows progression then that's all I can ask for.

For me it's all about setting your expectations...I know he's gonna rotate the team on Saturday and probably pick Eriksen, you just have to get used to what he does and expect it.

Still if he does get sacked I 100% want Mourinho :sneaky:

I’ve been Poch in all along and frankly found some
Of the comments by our fans embarrassing. The guy said right at the beginning of the season that this was going to be the hardest time for him at the club because of the major transition, but yet so many people are inpatient and want instant glory. This guy transformed us from a mediocre team that were labelled Spursy to a consistent top 4
CL finalist. Yes let that sink in. We were in the cl final. Who would of ever thought that five years ago? Last night was a glimpse into the future and I
Loved what I saw. We will strengthen in January and the summer but again don’t expect any miracles and let the man work. Let’s back him thick and thin and at least save judgement. He’s turned down the biggest clubs in the world to be with us so the least we can do is cut him some slack. Even the Bayern job is available and you don’t see him sniffing around. This guy has the backing of the players and the board so let’s make a statement on Saturday and show he has the backing of the fans as well by singing his name.
I’m sorry, Ollie, I’m going to have to disagree slightly.

I’ll preface what I say by stating that I also want to give him time to get it right again. That would be wish number 1.

However, in today’s football environment the need to perform is at a very high threshold. And that means that loyalty, a virtuous sentiment though it is, needs to be sacrificed if the situation calls for it.

As for Poch being loyal, the idea that he turned down Madrid is not an issue - they never made an approach, as far as we know, so saying he turned them down is misleading. Likewise with Bayern, no club would accept any ‘sniffing around’ if an approach hasn’t been made.

I was pleased when he signed a contract extension at the time when there were rumours of Madrid being interested, and if it can be argued that this demonstrated loyalty, and we praise him for doing so, it’s still poor currency in what is a very cut-throat world.

Right now, I’m all for giving Poch time, but the club HAS to come first, always. If the club is not being served, loyalty has no place. I’m willing to write this season off if the club takes a step forward as a result, but I think it’s short-sighted to stick with a manager purely on the basis that he took a decision to stay some time back. For other reasons, absolutely - but loyalty, sadly, is outside the equation in modern football.

This thread:

Win = People come in to say, can’t believe people are questioning Poch, you’re not real supporters.

Lose (or disappointing draw) = we’ve won 6 or 7 games in 10 months, he doesn’t look like turning it around and the form is terrible. Followed by a discussion that we might need a change as he’s not learning from his mistakes.

Reality = we’ve pretty much qualified from our group bar a disaster. Plus let’s not get carried away by one win, let’s hope we win Saturday and can then put a sequence of positive results together.

Unless we start winning again in the league and putting in consistent impressive performances, two big wins over Red Star means very little IMO. We need to beat Sheffield United.

Yeah that makes sense, I'm all romanticism rather than logic to be honest. I really think it'd be an incredible feeling to win something under Poch and with this team it'd be unforgettable. I feel with Jose It'd almost be cheating:LOL: I just feel like it'd be inevitable he would win something at least a domestic cup and although that'd be great to see for the club I'd have a bit of a bittersweet feeling in comparison and I probably wouldn't enjoy the football as much although admittedly the past year has been poor football for spurs but I'm hoping we are starting to see the rebuild. As I say illogical and romanticism.

As you say about the expectations, choosing out of form players and subs really disappoint me with Poch and I feel he would only have to blame himself if he lost his job if he doesn't fix those issues with his management.

But I do think we are on the right path. We’ve made some good signings in the summer and can’t wait until they are given proper game time to show what they can do. I also think Levy is backing Poch and will make further signings in January so it looks like to me that he’s laying new foundations already and is committed to us long term. This season is a transition and write off if we are better off in the future and rid of the dead wood.

Exactly and the problem I have is Poch will revert back to playing people that should not be playing. Saturday I would play the same team except the CB's but I see that as being highly unlikely

I was very happy with the team Poch selected and it pad off handsomely, I just hope he doesn't go back to Aurier, Toby and Eriksen against Sheffield.

but he’s got to stop the negative and confusing messages - the whole “I would have left” thing set a terrible tone, he’s clearly struggling to handle dressing room issues and egos, the consistent playing the wrong personnel, his post match comments re:ndombele after Liverpool, his “call me the coach now” stuff. He has to get a grip on himself as he does himself no favours when results on the pitch, quite frankly since Jan 2019, have been dire

Another decent showing from Poch good team selection and sticking to what suits the players.

I'd put money on the out of formers all starting the weekend though.

Thank you Hercules, I agree. It’s what we’ve all been saying for ages so not sure why so many are suddenly disagreeing. Even Rio Glenn and crouch said the same thing he needs to keep a consistent team now.

only possibly needed change may be dier as he’s not played many games for a while otherwise no reason that same XI can’t start again on Saturday and if a few are tired then get Lucas erisken etc on after 70 mins if needed.

gazzaniga - fine

Foyth - been baxk training for ages and played for Argentina, can easily play again
Sanchez - beast
Dier - mabye needs to be swapped out for toby due to lack of matches but if he can play again then start him
Rose - can play 2 games in 4 days, he’s 29 not 39 and he was rested in last league game!
Ndombele - not like he broke into much of a sweat
Sissoko - machine
Lo celso - came off with a few mins to spare, needs match sharpness and rhythm, start him again!
dele - needs games for form
Son - it’s sonny he plays about 4,000 games a year he’ll be fine
Kane - it’s Kane so he’ll play.

So please people who disagree why do we need to fucking change the team again? That team + sessengon is our future, they’re all now fit and they just got us an extremely impressive 4-0 away win keep some consistency poch and play them again and I think we will reap the rewards and have turned a corner.

You've said yourself with Dier it's if he can play another game. Its the same with Foyth, and Lo Celso. They should be fine, but if the fitness/medical team think that they aren't ready then don't risk them. If you played all three and they were all struggling in the second half that's all of our subs gone.

The only change I'd make out of choice would be Davies for Rose.

And if the 6 players I mentioned struggle to do 2 games within a few days and Sheffield United overpower us everyone will be delighted that they’ve played so much nd head into the international break delighted with the fitness. Provided they are fit.

And it's not like it's not like the players are resting during the International break. They're still training and playing games. Are they ready to play four games in two weeks? Will playing that extra game on Saturday mean they're more likely go get injured while they're away?

Absolutely.

And beat them convincingly. No lucky last minute 1-0 when we've looked devoid of ideas for 88 minutes.

Sincerely hope you're wrong. The last ray of hope was the home game v RSB, after which Poch immediately popped the balloon of optimism by doing precisely this. If he can't spot the obvious this time around I'll be totally dumbfounded.
