Not signing anyone in those 2 windows has killed us. So important to keep improving and keeping things fresh. From what I hear this was Poch's decision and for me is the biggest reason why we have gone backwards.

Rebuild for what though? Another 5 years without a trophy? Other teams ala Lester are now catching up with us.

We have a great squad now, even without CE, TA, DR etc...

That’s the crux of it for me. Even though I’m critical of how much ENIC really want to push for on field success as opposed to capital infrastructure projects, we have had the squad in the last few years to have won something and Poch has failed to get us over the line.

That and the feeling I’ve had for quite some time that Poch is only really comfortable working with younger players and running them into the ground, whilst coming up short tactically it makes me doubt whether a rebuild with him at he helm is going to bring us any closer to winning trophies.

In fact, if the rebuild takes longer then expected to even get back to challenging ( and still not winning anything) then I think there’s a good chance to say goodbye to Kane. And to waste a once in a generation world class striker from our academy with nothing to show for it would be an utter and totally damning failure of the whole club.

I would love to know the absolute facts about that. Problem is, unless we know for sure who Poch turned his nose up at signing then it’s hard to judge.

Despite what some of us want, I personally he is here for the forseeable.

I’m just glad I don’t have to go

Bit of a shame to see people on here trying to re write History and claim Poch wasn’t all that now

It is probably time to move on but pretty weird seeing people compare him to AVB when we all know how turgid and Bale reliant that period was

To put that in perspective. The 30-35m compensation; would be paid over the duration of his reading years on the contract. In other words, yearly, and not upfront! Unless there is a reduced pay-off settlement. And I doubt that would happen. So technically, he would be paid out for the remaining months, likely kept on salary. And done sort of upfront payment, which I can’t see exceeding 10m, with the balance paid yearly, or monthly. So do not be fooled to think the board would not ditch if things do not change.
This really clears the air. And for that I really don't think Levy has that much as a sticking point to compensate by sacking Poch.

If Poch words are to be believed all along, that their relationship is really good, I think that may be the saving grace for Poch to be still in this job so far. And also possibly explains the commanding presence and air around him - fearless, to the point of arrogance.

Have to say I was bitterly disappointed with the team selection yesterday, I felt the result mattered once we saw the team sheet and although you could argue the players did show up and the performance wasn't horrific vs a very good team with an incredible home record, for me the team selection really let me down. Alderweireld I could accept because I said so in the days leading up to the game aslong as Sanchez played I was fine with it. Winks I could understand to an extent but didn't particularly want it but Rose and Eriksen for fuck sake. I know Lamela being injured meant we wanted a playmaker out wide but personally I'd have preferred seeing Sissoko take up that position and Ndombele being put central given that we were gonna be under the cosh regardless.

The fact we got to half time and failed to make changes and then we made a poor choice at that with how Dele/Eriksen were playing. It was everything I feared in the build up.

I'm still Poch in but it's all based on romanticism rather than logic at this point, I've always valued ambition as doing trying to do the impossible. I argued that Poch should stay and win something at spurs because that's real ambition rather than going Madrid/United where it's par for the course. I've never wanted a sugar daddy and I've never needed trophy after trophy, personally I think that success belongs to the players and I'm here for the journey and I fell in love with the notion of this team, with these circumstances winning something big because it would mean more given the journey we've been on. I can understand why people want Jose, he's a serial winner and I can understand why people have lost faith in Poch because of his own decisions and I'm not going to argue or defend it because he has made mistakes and probably none bigger than this past weekend because once you turn the corner and go back, it makes things worse. I still want Poch to turn this around but as I say it's all romanticism at this point, I don't want the best period of being a spurs fan to end on a sour note or for him to leave empty handed, so I'm probably going to stick with him until the bitter end but I feel a bit let down by the decisions of this weekend and the logical side of me expects it to be coming to an end soon but I'm still holding out and hope that faith is rewarded.

I don't see why we should when this group of players should have been making strides to close the gap on the top two. We have some players who rather than ship out would benefit from new methods and a new voice.

It happened at Chelsea multiple times. Mourinhos last season they were in free fall and talking about ditching a number of their players, the following season they get a new coach who makes minimal changes and they win the title.

Now ripping things up and rebuilding MAY work out but why go through that when we are so close anyway?

Good point . Not sure if that was Mourihno 2nd or 3rd stint. Conte was given financial backing had the perfect storm like Leicester before with only the league to attend.

Chelsea model is so different to ours they spend big.

23 points from 22 league matches is surely sackable? That is a disgusting return. Yesterday is a just another disaster from Poch in terms of line ups, tactics, and substitutions in a long list of disasters.

It has all gone stale and change is needed ASAP. He has been at the club for 6 years, largely with the same players and the same back room staff, he has failed to keep things fresh. The 2 windows of not signing anyone has killed us as well, Poch & Levy to blame for this.

I think 6 years is about the maximum for a manager these days anyway. The days of Fergie & Wenger have long gone. The likes of Pep & Klopp will probably only do 6 years also.

The genius of Fergie was that he kept things fresh with changes to his back room staff every 5/6 years. He signed 1 or 2 players even when United were on top to freshen things up and to keep improving. We have done nothing of the sort even when we were on the up. Massive mistake.
He also had a ton of money to buy whoever he wanted even if they were expensive and he sold any player that peed him off.

What the fuck is all this rebuild shit.

It's just more excuses. A few players want to leave, big deal.

This squad should still be more than good enough.

I'm more worried about Kane wanting out because its gone on so long now.

I'd winner this 100 times if I could. Hes 26 and coming into his peak years. Much and all as Kane loves the club, hes going to want more than individual honours to show at the end of his career.

He could easily go to City for 200m and Hoover up trophies and he'd probably score 50 goals a season there with the supply he'd get.

As opposed to people who'll just happily sit back and watch the club be average like we have our whole lives. Maybe some of us longer supporting fans are part of the problem tolerating the bad times and mediocrity. I sit there in my seat in the south lower and its full of guys in their 50s doing nothing but sitting there not even singing or getting one bit emotional about the game and it does my head in. It's meant to be the part of the ground which drives the team on but it doesn't. Now maybe if we had a few younger, newer fans that might help. Those that want success and arent tarnish by decades of under achievement.

Just a thought.
One of my bigger problems with our fanbase is how accepting we are of Tottenham’s bullshit just because it’s Tottenham. I look at all the other top 6 fanbases and although they’re all entitled and arrogant, they set the tone for the club and the standards that are acceptable. I don’t think UTD or Arsenal will be this poor forever as their lot just won’t accept it. I feel like a lot of people who are Poch In also follow the ‘remember the 90s’ mindset which only holds us back

I’ve been a match going fan (or at least properly aware of football and not just playing it) since 2008. I didn’t see the true dark points of Tottenham simply because I wasn’t alive for it. And while I’m aware we’re in one of our brightest points in decades, I also think we can push on and become a real permanent force if changes are made. One of those changes IMO has to come from the fans. But then at the same time, the club have to start winning things in the modern era to force that mentality change

TBF it's the paying fans that could decide Poch's fate but how often realistically do fans vote with their feet and force the hand of their club? Wenger brought tremendous success to arsenal but the last few years were relatively turgid but aside from people moaning on AFTV what did they actually do?

I’d say AFTV definitely helped bring Wenger down for them and they made the issue a lot bigger. I don’t want us to be like AFTV but still

Brilliant post. The mentality of some of our fans needs to change, I said this to friends after the CL final. It just seemed like we was just happy to be there and the lack of expectation at times astonishes me. We have the most expensive tickets in the land, the best stadium and training facilities etc etc. Too many Spurs fans keep referring to the 90's where we were the epitome of mid table, but the truth is we have been regular top 6 for 15 years now. Before I would say 1992/3 we were also one of the big boys. In the 80's regular trophies and European football. Certainly the glamour club of London with the highest crowds in the capital regularly.

We aren't a rags to riches story we are massive club with a great history and this should come with it's own pressures. There is no reason why we shouldn't be challenging for the top honors and winning trophies as we have done in our illustrious history.

All this happy to be there rubbish and "it wasnt as bad as the 90's" needs to be stop.

To Dare Is To Do and all that.

The fans have never really needed to get militant over managers in the past as DL has always been pretty quick to dismiss them even in the case of Jol where we all felt uncomfortable. In the dim and distant past, I think back to the furore that led to Sugar selling the club (not that it was particularly pleasant) so Spurs fans aren't necessarily on the timid side. AFTV may have had an effect but it took a long time.

My point was whilst we had the best few seasons in recent memory under Poch it also coincided with the best squad we had in recent memory too. There’s no doubt Poch did an extremely good job for a few seasons, however it still had its flaws and like his predecessors he was unable to win us any trophies.

Glad people are starting to see this now, said this ages ago.

Many of our fans are happy being a nearly club and the expectation level is minimal, it needs to change.

Poch obviously has been a good manager for us, 2 seasons ago we peaked under him, since then it has gone backwards. It really is that simple. It is possible to acknowledge the good work he has done for us & criticise the current mess he has contributed to.

But when he does go and if it is soon as I hope it is then for me he won't be considered a great manager as he didn't win anything. The United Semi Final a few years back really sticks in the throat. Poor in game management and Mourinho tactically schooled him, The CL final line up was badly wrong, The Chelsea Semi with Son at full back shocker, Maybe he just hasn't got what it takes in big games.
