Every talented midfielder to come out of Croatia gets dubbed "the next Modric." Previously it was, "the next Boban" or "the next Prosinecki." It's similar in other countries as well. They always get compared to previous greats, regardless of whether their games are actually similar or not.

But tell me this kid isn't a copy/clone of Modric:

Alen Halilovic (#10). The way he moves, dribbles, looks, the stature, the hair. Uncanny.

Scores a great goal in the above clip and also tracks back to thwart a good scoring chance just prior to that.

He's 15-years-old and he's "the next great thing" to come out of Dinamo Zagreb (after Kovacic). Very highly rated and has already been to Real Madrid for a couple of trials. He went there a couple of times without Dinamo's knowledge and this caused quite a fuss, as his father is actually a youth team coach within Dinamo's setup. There was talk that the entire family would move to Madrid, but after some talks (and a threat of suspending the player for two years) things were eventually resolved.

Needs to obviously get stronger, but he's considered one of the better talents of his generation. I just had to share, as he's strikingly similar to Modric.

Another one to keep an eye on.

I'd have thought this was better stuck in the Spurs scouting thread?

But anyway, only watched the first couple of minutes of the video, but I can already say his finishing's as good as Modric's!

[Edit] Ha ha! Just noticed this threads over a year old!! I tell you what that Harry Redknapp's getting right on my nuts too! I reckon Levy should sack him at the end of the season and get in a younger guy who knows tactics!!!

Still only 16-years-old, but is in Croatia's squad for the World Cup qualifier vs. Scotland on Friday.

Exclusive: Halilovic, 14 million rejected by Shakhtar
04.06.2013, 23:27 -

Alen Halilovic, the '96 most expensive in the world. Dinamo Zagreb, workshop usually very expensive, asks 20 million and would have a discount of up to a few million. In recent days has presented a proposal for Shakhtar with 14 million nail, returned to sender. It all started from the first attempt of Real Madrid a few months ago he proposed eight million Euros. Now almost double. And the Dynamo in no hurry, know that they have a heritage in his hands.

14m euros, for a 16-year-old. And still not enough.

You can say you knew/heard of him before anyone else. Dinpomp (yes, third-person) made the first Halilovic comp, after collecting some footage of his youth team goals/actions. At that time there wasn't much talk of him at all. Within a short period of time, others took my comps/videos and started making their own, uploading them to other (high traffic) sites, and the word spread like crazy.

Now, I'm not saying I'm responsible for his rise of fame/value, as it was only a matter of time, but I can say "I started it!" (Patting myself on back.)

Halilovic makes the Balesque heart handsign after scoring. I thought Bale patented that. Deduction of wages for the boy.

It's pretty hard to say much from the video they show. Are those official games? I guess there are some small clubs in the Croatian league, but seriously, there are absolutely no seats or indeed spectators at some of those games.

I guess if we really paid 17M for them, they must be rather extraordinary, though. It does boggle the imagination that Levy would sanction that, but I guess our rather large outlay on the young Bale paid off rather spectacularly.

If we let everyone else fantasaise over this kid, will it give us a better chance of getting Kovačić (not saying he is better, just that I don't think we have a hope of getting Halilovic, TBH)?

:) Seems like I was off the mark with this - I had a vague recollection of posting something like it.
Now that there seems like a good to decent chance of it happening, I have had a little reflection. There was ITK (allegedly :sneaky:) suggesting that if these players develop to the level they could do, that all the sell-on clauses would make Dinamo rich. I don't know the truth of that, but when he was linked with United, Citeh and RM it just seemed like they would blow us out of the water.

Maybe, however, it is an area were Levy's dogged selling style is going to serve us well: if Dinamo sold him to Citeh, for example, it is a bit of a waste land for young players, and far from being tenacious in protecting their rights when selling players, who bear a stigma of failure when leaving a top club, they are almost forcing them out the door at a loss. That is hardly going to recommend them to Dinamo who would gain/lose a large amount of money depending on how much/little the next deal the players go through is worth. With us, on the other hand, they are more likely to get a chance to develop, more likely to make a big money move while carrying an aura of success, and will be sold by a club who will do their damnedest to get the maximum price for them.

The main fly in the ointment would seem to be the Modric farrago - but the problem wouldn't have been that Levy pushed Real on the fee, but that he did his level to keep Modric permanently. Don't know if Dinamo were due a sell-on for that deal, but our desire to up our status and keep hold of top players may cause problems with this type of deal in the future. But good reason for us to be every wonder-kid owning club's favourite wonder-kid first destination club - for now, at least.

Just a thought.
