The problem with Danny Rose and Spurs' familiar defensive mistake

Tottenham Hotspur might have had a reshuffled defence at the Emirates Stadium but once again they allowed an opposing team a very familiar way through to goal.

Alasdair Gold is the best Spurs Journalist, I agree with his assessment and there's not much more else to say other than I hope Sessegnon can do what Dele did.

Haven't read the article but don't need to, i've said in several different threads this summer how i don't think Rose is anywhere near as good as people think he is. Was thinking to myself this morning that Rose was possibly partly liable for 4 of our 6 conceded goals this season already - which is terrible.

Many fans seem fooled into thinking someone who can't produce a half decent cross at one end and repeatedly gets caught napping at the other end is still a great player 'cos he charges into tackles and plays passionately - utterly bizarre.

Have shown my love for Sessegnon in his thread on here and thoroughly look forward to having such a good player take Roses' place in the starting XI - a class above Danny on ability and an intelligent lad so would expect him to easily be more defensively aware than Rose.

Rose can be excellent and often makes brilliant tackles to save us from conceding. However he is also now too prone to errors in big matches that needs more discipline and focus. Surprised Davies didn't start yesterday but wonder if this will come soon.

Infuriating in the build-up to their 1st goal; instead of mullering the ball down the left-wing allowing us to regroup following penalty appeals, he dithers & tries to be clever. Culpable here, Newcastle & Villa.

Hopefully Davies & Sessegnon can get fit & put themselves in the reckoning.

We are the worst and pinning everything on a scapegoat. Whilst Rose is a common denominator, another is the fact that both examples given involve different centre back pairings.

Let's not overlook the fact we are yet to play with our first choice back 4 at any point this season...

If Rose is not good enough I'm not sure Ben Davies is the answer either.

He is less adventurous in attack.

But Davies defends better.

Hopefully Sessegnon will be a step above those two.

I agree Rose has not been as good as he was before.

If we revert to Vertongen and Rose on the left side of the defence I think stability will return

If we play with Sanchez and Toby as centre backs, then I'd opt for Davies at left-back.
