Atal does look good attacking wise but I wonder how good he is at defending? It seems like he hasn’t even played right back that much lately.

I think in January we should be looking to get in Bruno Fernandes 25 years old, scores goals and creates goals which we desperately need at the moment. I think our issue is mainly that despite often controlling possession we don't have enough threat or penetration. This ultimately puts pressure on our defence as the opposition don`t really fear us..
Also as part of starting the rebuild I would like to see a young centre back like Nathan Ake come in..
Why are 27 year olds the new 32 year olds all of a sudden? The player is quality and he would instantly improve us.Ziyech blows too hot and cold for me. Plus isn’t he near 27 years old? Haven’t checked his age.

Wenger was very good at that at one point.Didn't want to start a new thread for this but had a thought:
We always hear about not selling your best players, which is a "duh, no kidding" statement.
But I was thinking how at one point Eriksen, Jan and Toby were probably worth around 200 million between them.
And now we may lose all three for nothing.
Not only that but their performances have dropped off badly.
You could probably chuck Rose (who wasn't far off Walker a few years ago) and Dier (who United were sniffing around at a big number if I recall) in as well.
Maybe there is something to be said for selling high?
At least, always holding onto your best players is not as clear cut in my mind as it was before this year.
That league is so shit though. Anyone outside of Portugual would struggle to easily name 3 teams in it. He is basically up against Benfica and Sporting

It's a tight rope. I mean, you can't sell all your best players all the time, but being selective might be the balance. In this instance, selling CE might have been better in the long term for the squad - although those above Poch would have still been beaten with the 'selling best players' stick.Yeah. This will always be the response.
We only know in hindsight what players would have been worth selling. Even then, we wouldn't know now how those sold players would have done if they would have stayed at the club.

Bit late now, and Levy/Enic have fucked up plenty in the past so no pass for them.
Who'd manage/run a football club?
Probably the largest problem now - the need to buy quality is fine, but you also need to unearth talent from lower domestic levels if you aren't going to trust in what is being produced in your own academy.Someone needs to be really ballsy and accept an offer "too good to turn down", even if it looks like a bad decision at the time.
Coutinho is probably the best example, where many people thought they were making a big mistake.
HOWEVER, if there is any point in bringing in lots of funds for new transfers then you need good scouting to make sure you sufficiently replace whoever left. I'm not convinced about our strategies regarding that atm.
This is the point. Levy is getting hammered for letting them run their contracts down, but he would have also been hammered if he’d sold them in 2017. It was just a very particular set of circumstances that got us to this point.Didn't want to start a new thread for this but had a thought:

Can't imagine the uproar if we'd sold Eriksen, Toby, Jan, Rose etc in 2017. People still moan that we sold Walker with all sorts of 'what could have been scenarios'.
I know what you mean, but it's unlikely we'd have sold all of them in one go.
But even if we had, a lot of the response from the fans would depend on who we brought in to replace them.
Also, the executives running the club are on big sales so should have big ideas and be brave enough to competently execute them. They should be able to take a bit of moaning from the fans from time to time.
I think the answer is keep them, but when they get to 2 years left on contact sell. It's a tight rope.
