I think VdV's days at the Lane are numbered.

From Levy's point of view there's a decent profit to be made from a player who's age means his value will only depreciate and who is almost certainly one of the higher wage earners at our club.

From AVB's point of view he doesn't fit the system he wants to play. As has been pointed out previously VdV doesn't have the pace or the stamina for AVB's preferred system and while he will work hard he's not effective at regaining possession and will concede more and more free kicks as he tires. In addition we have a younger version of VdV in Gylfi who while not having VdV's skills is equally as good a goal threat and has better stamina. Both however lack pace and I can only see an AVB team accomodating one of them. In addition VdV isn't going to be happy playing supersub for Gylfi and has a strong enough personality that if he became unhappy it would almost certainly affect the dressing room.

It's a shame as VdV is a great player but he's also a square peg and AVB only has round holes. As a fan i'll be sorry to see VDV go but AVB has clearly got a plan and he has to be given a chance to implement it with players of his choosing otherwise it will be a repeat of the debacle at Chelsea.

To infuriate you loyal VDV fans.. He does not fit fluidly into our system, and he is not world class, a very good player but not world class. However that saying losing both VDV and Mods will be a big blow but Levy and AVB know what they are doing.

I'm sure Ramos and Levy thought they knew what they were doing when we sold Keane and Berbatov and bought in Fraizer Campbell.

I lose all faith in this season if we sell Rafa. It's as simple as that.

I'm a bit surprised at this. While I can agree that not all systems are good matches with all players, take for example Barcelona and have them play like Stoke, managed by Tony Pulis. I doubt that in the forementioned scenario Tony Pulis would go out of his way to replace Messi, Xavi and Inista with Etherington, Delap and fucking Peter Crouch?

No, he'd play a system fit for his best players. Of course was is an exaggregation, but there can be no doubt VDV is one of the top players at the club. You have to mould the team to fit the top players, not the other way around.

Dont understand Why AVB gets blamed for the departures, or possible departures. Luca wants out regardless, a loan spell for Hudd will get him fit and ready, Daws was fourth choice cb last season and will be again and the talk bout VdV started long ago. For all we know he want to leave for non footballing reasons.

Hardly think AVB tries to get unpopular.

What makes you say this? They were roughly as productive as one another last season despite Sigurdsson playing on a worse team:

Sigurdsson doesn't have VDV's vision or ability to move the ball into space quickly. He has other great attributes no doubt, but we will see a swift decline in the rhythm and fluidity of our general play if we lose VDV and don't get another creative passer.

This is so right I'm going to print out copies, have them framed, and post them to friends and family.

Our current system is a 4-2-3-1 and he fits perfectly into that system.

I love VDV but CAN see the logic of him leaving.

He certainly looks almost old on the pitch sometimes.

Great guy and would miss him - not forgetting lovely Sylvie!

Great couple and would both be missed!

Agree with this 100%. Not saying that VDV should be sold, just that Sigurdsson is not in a totally different class.

LLCG - I think you're in danger of getting hopes up by quoting people that are probably responding to the bullshit posted by some random WUM called Football Agent49.
Isn't football agent49 the only one that isn't a wind up? or is that footballagent9?

I always take this stuff with stacks of salt mate, you know that....But we can't police everything in this particular thread. I'm sure someone mentioned this Mulligan fella as decent before though a while ago and he backs up what you say about the WUM
