Tottenham turn down Carvalho & Sahin to hold out for cash-only £40m Modric deal

If true, it is disappointing but consistent with the information that AVB does not rate Sahin.

@gstobart: Re Adebayor. Am I allowed to extend the deadline? Good progress being made & Spurs confident - but not imminent

Of course depends on the cash being offered as well, if it was minimal then probably right to turn it down. No point in bloating the squad with players the manager doesn't rate. My gut is we want the £40m so we can get Moutinho with funds to spare.

Carvalho is a free agent (according to several posts I've seen on SC the last few weeks) and if that's the case im wondering how Madrid can offer him as part of any deal. Or am I wondering if the Tweet is in any way accurate........

According to Marca a couple of weeks ago there are a group of RM players including Carvalho and Diarra who are in the last year of their contracts who have been trying to negotiate "frees" to enable them to get good deals elsewhere. RM were apparently playing hardball with them and were trying to get a fee for them.

JJ's reputation has increased plenty this TW. Am I right in thinking he told us not to worry about the strikers, they'll be in place by time we play the bar codes?

If it's any truth in it I bet AVB and Levy have someone special in mind when they turn down Sahin and just hold out for cash.
I'd rather take Sahin and £30-35m than £40m in straight cash....but thats just me.... and everyone on SC it seems...

Falcao to spurs is done, trust me this is 100 percent done #THFC

Couldn't get on here yesterday. Any ideas if Akqa was shooting holes in it and the RT was to just take the piss? If so, is there a clue as to what his earlier tweet in is reference to?

It may be less that he doesn't rate him so highly and more that he doesn't rate him in relation to our team. To lose out on circa £10-12m for the sake of a player which we don't really need (as we have the likes of Hudd, Carroll, Livermore, Jenas etc...) means that AVB might then not have the money to spend where he wants to spend it (i.e. Moutinho).

There really is no point in selling Modric if AVB can't bring in the replacement he wants for him.

As for Carvalho - he could provide excellent cover for us at the back, especially RB where we are lacking a bit (shock horror) in experience asides from Walker. But i would expect us to release/sell Gallas if he were to come in and frankly i'm not sure Carvalho is worth anything, perhaps £2m tops. However presumably Carvalho can play the high back line well and hence why he might make sense as a back up option to ease the transition for the likes of Kaboul and Dawson.

It would be a surprise, there was a report yesterday saying that Simeone intends to name Falcao captain..
