i think we also have to accept that the age at which players come through is no longer going to be 18-20 but more likely 22-23. This isnt just a Spurs thing but even Real madrid and Barca who pretty much have their pick of the talent in Spain usually don't get players through until they are 22 to 23 years old.
Are we expecting players to come through earlier than is realistic

You say we need to look at it as we're regressing, but surely the overall thing is whether or not they go onto first team football. When we were reguarly having 5 in a squad etc, it doesn't seem like many were going on to greater things. So surely it's a red herring metric that means not much?
But we benefited a lot from it. It doesn't matter if they go onto better things. It means we're not spending/wasting money on squad players, so we could focus it elsewhere. Either surely the more options you have the better is my point. There were points where we previously had 3 players who could have contributed to the first team squad or 4, and one just about made it through. So it helped that we had 4 at that standard to be able to bring through one.

I we only have 1 then we're reducing our options of bringing through players, because the odds are most definitely against him coming through

That's not really the point I'm making. I'm not saying players should be coming through younger, I'm literally talking about our development of our players is really poor. Before we were giving a well rounded education and producing a lot of good players. The standard of player we're producing at u16/u18 later is improving each year, but the level of regression at u23 is a concern. Even if they were good enough or playing well enough at u23 level I wouldn't be expecting them to be playing first team anyway, but as a club I think it's something worrying

So rather than our development of players being really poor what you really mean is the development between 18 to 23 is really poor? If we're producing very good players up to the 16-18 Mark then our development up to that age should be considered very good. You're concerned with the development between then and the first team? Am I right?

Our academy’s goal should be to make kids better players and improve them as much as possible, giving them the best possible chance to succeed in football as well as life. On the whole we turn out a good person, they seem good lads not up there own arse.

Our record of purchases over the last 2-3 years has been poor. Nje and GKN being the standout waste of money. It was as if we were saying just take a chance ..it’s only 7-8m who cares if we lose money. Having said that..our best youth hopes...Edwards Onomah and CCV don’t look like they will end up in our first team or even the squad. Winks had something about him when he first got a chance and I think KWP can make it if he could just get a chance. Skipp looks like he might make it even though he doesn’t compare to some others if you base it purely on talent.
If we could get a youth player into the squad once every two years we would be doing well.
Even though Arsenal have not had a great youth side recently they have given chances to Maitland Niles (a lot out of position) SmithRowe and Nketiah who all look better than our three.
These players sometimes come along in bunches. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Ajax have struggled for a few years and now have DeLight and Frankie Dejong. Who are the Barca youth players to come through in the last five years ?

Those players are constantly out performed by our players and don't look as talented as ours but they aren't stagnating as much as they are being involved with their first team whereas ours barely get a look in as it is and are often played out of position like KWP, onomah and etc.

smith-rowe and nketiah would be considered to be amongst our top talents if they were with us. smith-rowe in particular i think is going to be very good, though there's no doubt that he's played a lot more for arsenal at this point than he would have done here. maitland-niles i've always seen as being a level off onomah so it is frustrating to see where the two of them are now, again though he's played more for arsenal than he would have for us so who knows where the two would be in an alternate universe. arsenal's academy is going through a bit of a resurgence at the moment after a baron spell, not sure whether they're doing anything differently or it's just a cycle as @Westmorlandspur mentioned. ours is ticking along at a pretty consistent rate i would say but if it only leads to one player reaching the first team every 4-5 years then that will very much be an underperformance on our part.

Good ball to Brown who marauds forward taking on a player, out to Roles who bends it into the far corner. Lovely bit of play.

Great save from Austin, good strike but a strong hand loops it up. Headed back on target by their player, Hinds clears off the line and follows it out getting it safe. Chelsea dangerous down the left/their right and they've had the better of the half so far

Hinds has done well,Oakley-Boothe not in the game and Brown needs to be allowed to push that wing-back of theirs back the other way by running at him like with our goal.

unfortunately that is the case with tob nine times out of 10. i do feel a bit sorry for him in that for some reason we seem to be trying to turn him into a winger but wherever he plays the game just tends to pass him by. on a more positive note though paris has been very good, he's looking after the ball a lot better this season and is showing real flashes of quality along with it.
