Told you the future is bright!!

Welcome back sir, good to see you again.

You've arrived in the nick of time, to divert the conversation away from player comparisons and how we'll never be able to replace Modric with another of his calibre.

I hate those discussions in here because they, a) take up space, and b) because I think player comparison arguments are flawed - no two players are the same and once you get to a certain level of player ability, labels like "box to box", or "holding midfielder" become less applicable and more fluid.

A good player is one that fits the team.
A great player will fit any team.

So have we had talks? Made a bid? Had the bid accepted? Agreed wages with the player? Or pulled a name out of a hat and said "we'll go for this one!"?

There's nothing wrong with being optimistic but people seem to be forgetting that the Athletico transfer fee was 31 million with the fee potentially rising to 37 million based on performance-based clauses which you'd have to imagine he reached so id expect a fee of around 40m being what it would take to sign him, is that feasible? Sorry for being so negative, to be honest I'm probably only writing this to make myself believe it's not possible but my god he would be some force in the bpl

As much as I'd love it to be Falcao, one question that seems to have been missed here is why would Athletico Madrid want to negotiate with us on the hush-hush?

They have one of the most potent strikers in Europe on their books, surely if they were selling him it would become an auction? Highest bidder wins?

Whether AVB has persuaded him or not, surely the club, and his Agent, will want to see if another top team, and coach, would be interested?

I shan't let go the hope, but it's not really adding up for me.

Can't see us signing Falcao for the simple reason that as soon as we buy him his value will start deteriorating (through ageing, contract running down etc...). He would need to be the Prem top goal scorer just to keep his value. We don't have the money to do that with £40m and wages.

We will try and buy a young player who has great potential or an older player that is good value. If we start splashing out on players at their peak for mega bucks we will soon be out of pocket and then start dropping.

It is simply not sustainable.

Also didn't AVB start out his career at Porto as a scout (age around 16 I think). He should have an idea on some up and coming players.

its a worry if Liverpool do make a decent offer for him, and pretty much tell him he will be starting for them, then he might think its the best thing for his career and want to go

fingers crossed he stays

i am worried about VDV, Been lots of little rumours, his apparent hamstring issues, plus possibly not being a natural fit in an AVB system all add up to an areas of concern for me

He just recently signed a new deal stating that he was looking forward to competing for his place.

Whilst it might be possible that we got him to sign an extended deal so his value was high, I can't see this as he is far from established yet. He has every attribute that AVB values in a defender so I can't see 'Dre' not fancying him either.

I'd be shocked to my marrow if it was Caulker, it just doesn't add up, considering our player policies.
