Villa imo is a investment, sometimes you don't need to sell a player to get your money back or a huge return, we could do by:
  • Increased exposure by having a current world cup winning striker in our squad
  • Better sponsorship, we need a high calibre of players to have a big sponsorship deal
  • Attract better players(who may of not come to us)
  • Shirt Sales
  • and more, like prize money and shit
One of the main benefits of us signing Villa imo is that we will be taken more seriously, we often seen as the also rans or that team trying to almost cheat to win by not playing the game like everyone above us and throwing silly money around.

For some reason, maybe I am just being overly pessimistic, but I get a odd feeling Villa and Paulinho will be the only two plays we bring in this summer. If we do bring in anyone else I also feel it will most likely be a young defensive player for the future. The other player I feel we need as much as a forward, a new left wing playmaker like Lamela/Bernard, is probably not on Levys list. Why I feel like this I don't know, just a hunch.

I think you could be pessimistic this time because we rarely tie up deals early much less without players going out to offset the cost. If we have agreed deals for Villa and Paulinho I would imagine that's transfer kitty money Levy has thrown in to keep Bale happy and get players in early for AVB, then after a few sales maybe go chasing a couple of others, anyway you know he couldn't go a window without trying a few late deals at discounted prices

Our typical MO until these past few odd years under Levy has always been to spend 20 million plus sales on players. So much like wrapping up Verts and Sigs last year around this time, it's not unprecedented for us to spend early, even for an expensive player. Although we have had droughts too. Villa + Paulinho early would be a new precedent though.

The Grey Fox itk indicating a few ins and out imminently could come to fruition imo

We sold Krancjar, Pienaar and Corluka early last year and they kind of funded Vertonghen and Sigurdsson.
Bearing that in mind and with a potential of £25m flying out of the front door quite soon, there must be a couple on the brink to balance things up.

No clue who though

I think we need quiet a few outs before we see too many more ins

I think there's more money to spend than people think

I think Levy has had money to spend but saved it - firstly due to him not having confidence in Redknapp's signings/targets and then last year from not being sure on AVB for the long term so not wanting to release immediate funds like he did when Harry first took charge which would cripple our spending for future windows (plus AVB himself may have wanted to fully assess his squad before deciding where to spend)

I think what with the Modric sale, extra Sky money we'll spend more than people think this year. Of course we'll look to off set that with player sales but I don't think we'll be operating one in one out or looking to break even with transfer dealings

I think we'll back the manager and try to show Bale some ambition to get back in the CL and start becoming a big team again

I totally agree with this- levy has historically always given managers at least one decent window where he backs them and let's them put their mark on the squad. Hopefully after the promise shown by AVB in his first year this could be his one. Also seems pretty pointless bringing in baldini unless there is going to be some backing to his plans and ambitions

If Levy has a load of money saved up where has he been keeping it? Our last financial report showed only £11m in the bank and a loan of £86m that needed paying.

The best thing about signing Villa is, he is not a replacement for Adebayor/Defoe - he is best fit at forward LW and can play with another central striker. I view Villa as a upgrade on Dempsey/Siggy than Ade. If Villa can continue his goal scoring, we are talking about atleast 15 goals a season+ sizeable assists from that position. If we can add another decent striker ahead of Ade, there is no reason why we can't in the mix for title challenge let alone top4.

The significant thing though, if we sign Villa, Lennon will no longer be a starter for the XI.

We've had a bid accepted and contract agreed in principle. Paulinho could sign at any moment.

That Chelsea still haven't bid yet (they know the price). In my eyes means they're not going to.

Sad to say, the followers of David Villa's twitter is 3740000, while spurs official is around 500000...

im looking at the important facts here, regardless of age Villa is the kind of player who can win and take penalties. I cant believe youve all missed the masterplan!

We havent been able to buy a penalty let alone score one for far too long.

We have not been awarded one for very long.

Sorry I was wrong on these figures. Swiss ramble has just done a new blog on the premiership. In June 2012 we were £70m in debt and had £16m in the bank.

Please also remember that this money is not all for players (if any) as we need cash for the day to day running of the club (buying biscuits and shit).

Agree that some players will go out to balance P and V. My list: Parker, Livermore, rose, Hudd, Defoe....that is a decent chunk f money coming in
