Didn't like him when we were linked last year and definitely not a fan now that he couldn't cut it in La Liga.
That's a tad unfair, he was behind Godin and Miranda which was one of the meanest CB pairings in Europe last year. Did alright when he came in there and at RB.

His father and agent said in Belgian media today that he is available for transfer/loan, with the latter the preferred option.

He's certainly an upgrade on Dawson. As a plus, he is solid at RB as well. Had a good WC in that position.

I have no agenda against Dawson, but he really is nowhere near a very poor England team, why?

It's hardly relevant about how good a player Aldeweireld is. Dawson was in the England team until getting injured and that gave the Everton lad his opportunity, but as for Alderweireld playing for Belgian he mainly plays right back for them not CB.

Watching him play CB at Ajax it always struck me how lacking he was and how lucky he was playing in the Eredivisie and how he'd struggle in an intense league like the PL. I thought he would be found out in La Liga, he hardly got enough game time to argue either way and filling occasionally in for a team on a roll like AM were last season wasn't too difficult when everyone around you is brimming with confidence

I just don't think you can suggest a player that has done an excellent job in the PL for ten years in a team for the most part of that has been a top 5 club is so much worse than a player who has never been anymore than at best adequate in the Eredivisie and played out of position in a Belgian team that haven't exactly shone save arguably for a recent decent run in the WC

Of course you can argue Verts has done a similar thing playing out of position for the national team, but you only had to watch the two together to at Ajax see the gulf in quality

Will be interesting to see how this guy gets on at Southampton seeing how we were link to him last year.
Might be worth a punt if his loan is a success?

I believe they have an option to buy at the end of the loan. So, Southampton will have first dibs.
