Not at all. I don't think Poch is conniving enough to do something like that. But I wonder if he felt a change was necessary given the disappointment from the CL lose and went about another approach during the pre-season. Either way, this has been a testing season and I'm ready to see how Jose goes about pre-season later this year.

I personally think Poch's heart was not in it after the CL final and the shambles this season is a result of the whole first team not being at the races from day one of pre-season. What with Trippier leaving, Rose being discontented, Eriksen wanting away, Toby running his contract down (back then), and the whole place being flat. I do think a 'happy' Jose will get massively inside the players heads and pre-season will be much better next time around ... as long as Levy can sign the 2-3 players he will undoubtedly need / want before we fly out for the pre-season tour.

Haven’t idea if it’s connected but when I went on a stadium tour in the summer we were shown the warm up room & the guide told us that it was no longer used to “warm up” with exercises pre-match, but for stretching exercises only.
The exercise bike etc.. were therefore surplus & not used.

I saw the same room, the guide did explicitly mention that they did not do any pre-activation or prehab exercises in that room. Was weird.

I get what you're saying. But he joined in January. In 4-5 weeks he's started 5 games and was subbed off in 3. Basically a game a week.

That should be easily manageable for a footballer. It's not like he's come from an injury lay off, he was playing every week in Holland.

Yeah, you are right if you only include League games, but we also have to play pesky little things like Cup matches. which he has been involved in.

Not when you've come from a league where they play at half the pace of the Prem.

I hear you mate. But on that basis any footballer that comes to the prem from any other league other than the Bundesliga (as it's nearest to the prem in terms of pace of the game) cannot handle a game a week?

He's been playing 3 matches a week pretty much at a different level of intensity, it's a massive shock to the system coming from any other league abroad.

We say this every season. Every season nothing changes.

Except that we signed players in January, we never usually do that. I think there is every cause for optimism. Jose is a proven coach who has won more points than Man City or Liverpool since joining. Look at the stats. Think. Smile. Cheer the fuck up!

Well, something did change. We finished our new stadium, refinanced the debt, and have had a full year of increased revenue. I totally understand why we have not been able to prioritise the first team over the last 4 or 5 years. I now expect serious investment in the playing staff to get the team as good as the stadium.

I was just under the assumption that we'd brought in Willem Korsten as Head Physio and hired Darren Anderton and Jamie Redknapp as our fitness coaches.

Levy has already said his approach won't change. Do you really think he will pay more for players to come in early window when he believes he can sign them later in the window?

Firstly, his approach doesn't have to necessarily change for us to spend more on players - the process will be exactly the same in terms of identifying players, prioritising positions, etc. The difference is we'll just have more funds to allocate to the first team squad after a decade of prioritising funding the new stadium.

And secondly, he'd be pretty stupid to come out and say 'lads, we're flush, watch me spend big this summer!'

My comment was directly in relation to when we purchase players, namely late in the window.

He wouldn't be stupid to come out and say that. He would have to have been kidnapped with Yankspurs sending messages from his phone pretending to be him!

You'll notice that when Nuno was here we were last in running and now with Conte, we're in the top 3 for distance covered, sprints etc. Switching mid-season to a more energy intensive approach to playing without having a thoroughly challenging pre-season to set the foundation, was always going to incur injuries and see players accumulate fatigue at a faster rate. I don't have this season's data but this is the same medical team from last season, who managed to keep us on the lower end of injury spectrum. Because we only likely follow Tottenham, we only particularly care about our players, and thus our viewpoint fails to take in that other clubs have issues with injuries.
