There’s a level of pressure /expectation on Troy Parrott that I think is unhealthy.
SC is full of confidence that he’ll be a viable alternative to Kane after his season at Millwall, and as a result our recruitment for a back up should be a short term option.
In reality, we should be looking for a second season loan- to a PL team. We shouldn’t be approaching his development any differently to Skipps.
All of which means we need to be looking for a backup who is a first team player in their right, a player who can play either alongside Kane, or in his place if he’s injured or even leaves next summer.
Deeney is clearly a stop gap.
Wilson, Eduoard, Depay ( maybe even Muriqi) would give at the least another 2 years

Ideally isn't that what we hope Parrot is? A young talent that will be able to challenge for Kane's spot eventually? Until he is ready for that role though, doesn't it make sense to find someone that is a PL caliber talent who can give Harry a rest during cup matches and matches against inferior competition? Obviously, barring injury, "Fat Drake" isn't getting on the pitch against Chelsea or Liverpool but when we play the dregs of the league like Brighton or Villa, an experienced striker like him can give us enough cover to let Kane sit for a spell.
To me, that is the argument for a "backup" that we can get on the cheap. Especially when there are positions on the pitch that really require greater long term investment.

To me Parrott is not a back up to Kane. He's an academy product that in future years may become a great striker. I believe we need someone to come in now and provide back to Kane, be a good foil for him as required but also with enough talent to challenge him. If we are to progress as a club, we mustn't be afraid to continually push the players...even the ones like Kane who are ordinarily the first name on the team sheet.

Thats why I said Edouard or Sarr would be the type of player Id be looking at....already playing well can play support striker role and have the talent to push and challenge Kane if he ever became complacent or form dropped significantly (as unlikely as that currently seems)

Sarr hasn’t shown any signs of playing as a CF. He’s quick, but only really shown that he can face up a full back.

Only way this makes sense is if we sign him on a one-day contract purely to let him score against Arsenal and be an absolute dick about it.

*pops head in to SC to see what’s going on, sees Troy Deeney thread still going strong. Tip toes back out and closes door quietly behind him.

This is the Troy Deeney thread, sunshine- there aren’t any doors to quietly close, just the scorched gates of Mordor

No thanks. Limited footballer who is beneath us even as a back up.
Giroud is a good back up but personally think we should be looking at someone that would push Kane, like Eduard (lad at Celtic).

From adverts featuring goats’ shaven gonads to this in days. I’d say quite a few of you might have made u-turn in your online browsing behaviour

Saw someone say he has 18m release clause, dunno if it's correct

Wow. If that is accurate, we’d be crazy not to give it a shot, although just about every team in the Prem will be willing to meet that price.

Hard part probably would be to convince him to come here and sit behind Kane where there are probably places he can quickly slot in as a likely starter (Palace, West Ham, Newcastle, etc).

He doesn't have to sit behind Kane - Can start ahead of Moura on the right, instead of Son and instead of Kane. Can do it all.

He's THE perfect purchase.

We could get Eze and Watkins for the same price as being asked for Brooks.

Wilson, Eduoard, and Muriqi would be 3 realistic targets i'd be putting at top of our list if we can get any of them.
Deeney shouldn't be an option A, B, C, D, E, F or anything, simply no.

Forgot to include Ollie Watkins in that list - hearing today that he has an £18 m release clause. Also that Edouard had a sell on clause in his Celtic one.
So you have
Wilson at £10m
Watkins at £18m
Edouard at £25m minimum
No idea how much Muriqi would cost

Great interview but I’d rather us sign Callum Wilson. I think he’s the better player and is 4 years younger.

Deeney struggled with a knee injury throughout the season, which at 32, is concerning — although he’d say I’m a cheeky bastard for suggesting so :ROFLMAO:

Wilson isnt going to want to play 2nd fiddle at this time in his career.
