LSU are so far ahead (defensively) of any other team they could potentially play in the BCS National Championship Game it is hard to see past them.

I would like to so how they would stop the passing game of Luck or Weedon.

Also waiting to see what the BCS end up doing with Boise this year if they end up undefeated.

Unfortunately for Boise the latest rankings have pretty much ended any hopes of a BCS Championship game, as Bama only dropped to 3, when Boise would have been hoping to jump them in the rankings.

It would be very interesting to see Luck against a defense of LSU's quality in the Championship game...although I fear even he would struggle, LSU are that far ahead. Although I have a feeling we will be seeing a Bama/LSU rematch for the Championship.

Back on Paterno briefly, doesnt that quote from Harvey Dent in the Dark Knight ring eerily true now?

"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

It doesn't matter what Joe Paterno has done previous to this, at the end of the day he knew children were being raped and he decided to protect the program instead of protecting kids, for that he deserved to be sacked. His 409 wins don't mean a thing, I really don't have anything postive to say about Paterno because his whole reputation was built upon honesty and integrity and high moral standards, it was all a lie because when he had the opportunity to make a difference he cowarded out.

The fact that most of the Grand Jury's judgments were on victims post 2002 means that there are at least 7-8 kids who would not have been raped by Sandusky had Paterno alerted the police. To know that Sandusky raped kids and to allow him not only to be free but to allow him access to the athletic building is absoulty fucking shocking.

Mike McQueary should also be sacked, to have actually witnessed Sandusky raping a 10 year old boy and to do nothing is fucking disgusting, should never be allowed to coach anywhere again.

Go Boilermakers!!! (I watched some college football while I was in Hong Kong and Purdue had a funny name and beat someone quite good).

Its there something daft like there are only ten teams in the Big 12, whatever that is, and 10 in the Big 8?

My friend plays for the London Blitz and slowly but surely I'm starting to learn about the game, but whenever I've seen NFL games they seem to go on for absolute hours. Like Cricket but at least with cricket you don't really need to pay attention.

As to the incident in question, I can't believe people are defending Paterno. How the hell can you try to cover up child rape???? Why the hell didnt the guy who caught the guy in the act call the police, or beat the crap out of him? Or both?.

Really worries me that some people can't understand this (and yes, I'm looking at you the Catholic Church!)

You have to wonder what goes through some people's heads. Do they think that if they ignore something it will be as if it had never happened? Persuade themselves that what they're doing is somehow the right thing? It just beggars belief. I was listening to the abbot at Ealing Abbey being interviewed about the abuse at the school the monks ran, saying that they'd moved one of the perpetrators into the abbey because they thought he'd be out of the way of temptation there. To be fair, I'm not sure if they actually knew this monk had done anything or just suspected him, but I still thought, 'What planet are you from?'

Still, these cases may hit the headlines, but the overwhelming majority of child abuse takes place within the family.

We seem to have gotten away from the initial point, a Catholic Church-style fudge on pre-pubescent buggery, and on to college football in general. Could someone explain the attraction of this monumentally tedious 'sport' to me? (Be warned, my Yank cousins have tried, and failed.)

'… beaux moments, mais de mauvais quart d'heures' as Rossiini said of Wagner.

Answer will come after work. I used to feel like you too.

And Re: dark knight quote - what a perfectly apt line.

I know what happened, I was just wondering whether Im the only College Football fan here (go gators).

Personally, I think that the board of trustees were 100% correct in their decision, despite his legacy. In fact, his act of omission was made all the worse, because as the legendary face of penn st, he would have easily had an investigation instigated at his behest at any time.

NCAA has very strict rules (colleges can't even fly parents out to watch games), and Joe Pat is all his time has never been accused of breaking a single rule, but when dealing with something so hideous, his decision to both save face, and save the program rather than putting innocent lives ahead deserves to tarnish his reputation.
.

totally sick what happened to those boys. If this assitant coach found guilty should be locked up for life so should anyone that covered up the sexual abuse.

Apparently Joe Paterno reported it to the university administration but not to the police. That was his only error.

The man had been there for almost 55 years. Think it was the amdminstrators, and the other coach who saw the abuse 1st hand to report it to the police.

off topic here.

the ncaa is ridiculous of what you can and cant do. I played college tennis. A booster will buy you dinner, beer, get you a part time job etc all the time. It isnt reported and is selectively enforced.

Some poor kid who goes to class for 6 hours a day, practice for 2-3 hours a day and has to study, is supposed to work a part time job how??? Most of the guys come from lower class backgrounds and then they struggle to even take their girlfriend to a movie on a Friday night or something. Some of these ncaa football or basketball programs make 20-30 million dollars a year for the respective university. The players shoud get a stipend beside their scholarship. There was a good article in this weeks sports illustrated outlining how each this would be to achieve.

Its amazing how much these football (and basketball) programs pull in for the NCAA and the colleges. I bet the NCAA pulls in at least $2 billion a year in tv rights.

I've been a Penn State fan since I was a child. Went there. Still go up for games and to reconnect with friends. I am beyond disgusted and ashamed.

Sandusky (the abuser) is a fucking monster. I hope they send him to Grateford Prison where the bikers, gang members and sodomites show him no mercy.

Paterno (head coach) should be ashamed as a mentor, father and grandfather

McQueary (the assistant who spotted the rape) is a damn coward. Yes, he reported it to his coach. How about you be a fucking decent human and save that child from being raped instead of walking away? Oh, and then, I don't know,... call the fucking cops!

Curley (university athletic director) flat out sucks. Cover it up??? Are you serious?! Call the cops you depraved cocksucker

Spanier (university president) should be sued at the very least. More cover up?? This is a world-renowned academic institution. How about showing some morality and leadership instead of hiding child rape to save the schools reputation?

To all the other assistant coaches, graduate assistants, past players, and other personnel who knew or highly suspected Sandusky in years past: I hope you're all happy with yourselves. Through your inactions you've helped to hide a monster and give him the courage to continue to destroy the futures of young boys for God knows how long.

I am ashamed to be associated, even through name and location only, with this atrocity.

I think the only thing you can do as a Penn State fans right now is get behind your team even further, band together, and remind the CFB world that Penn State is much more than the reputation of some dodgy individuals. Am watching the Nebraska game right now and your fans seem to be doing just that to your credit.

you have to understand, the sec is too strong, too powerful, too good and too tough for anyone else. they beat oregon already by 2 touchdowns this season, and they've gotten stronger and stronger.

In the situation that Oklahoma State lose to Oklahoma, is there any chance of a Oklahoma State v Oregon BCS Bowl game? That would be absolutely phenomenal, they are both so fantastic offensively. I would really fear for Oklahoma State if they play LSU in the championship game.

Not for the BCS championship game. potentially for another bowl, but you cant have that if LSU remain undefeated, and in such a scenario, it would be difficult to argue past an LSU/Bama rematch. There is the chance that without the SEC championship to play for, Bama might fall behind on that saturday.

Yeh man obviously no chance of an Oregon-OkState Championship game. I only asked because a few of the conferences winners have reserved places in one of the BCS Bowls - like I know the winner of the Pac 12 goes to the Rose Bowl, so it may not have been possible to get that matchup.

As far as I'm aware, there can be some manoeuvring, although it's not really clear. I'll ask my yank friends when they wake up.

Furthermore, Arkansas, another SEC team should be ranked higher than most of the other 1 loss teams. Their only loss came on the road to Alabama, whereas, for example, the Sooners lost to Texas Tech (Ok state beat TTU by around 60 points).
