Maybe, could also see that he has something to prove still. Just think we lack a bit of experience and can't think of anyone else of similar ilk.

We demand an energetic high press from our forwards. Rooney would be completely unsuitable.

In all seriousness these sort of signings are the polar opposite of our transfer activity over the past few years, you're not the first to suggest this sort of signing though.

I think that's my point. Just one signing who is a bit against the grain - hopefully in a positive way. Might not work, might help though as well on and off the field.

I do think we could do with someone who has a track record of winning stuff but I think if we go that route it'll be someone younger, much less risk with sell on value if it doesn't work out, someone between 25-28 years old.

Wouldn't a player like that from pl or Spain be 50 mil plus? Not to mention wages. Just can't see it I'm afraid. I think we are ready to win now and don't think a player of his experience would be a bad signing.

The "Rooney-like" signing that we should consider is Alves - he actually fits the tactics and has won everything. Unlikely to happen - but that is the type of player you should be thinking about for a "veteran" signing

I'm sure he would take a massive pay cut to join us

Be expensive yeh but I expect he will take some sort of pay cut wherever he goes. Probably has short term commercial value too for a new club.

I think I've flogged my dead horse now though and will go back into my cave. I'd love to see a few suggestions from others though of players with top experience who could fill that experience gap.

We know how Levy loves his 'entering the last year of contract' deals, or maybe a sneaky release clause being activated!

Lloris, Vertonghen, Elderweireld, Dembele,Walker, Wanyama, and Rose
are all in their prime and have experience.
I think you are confusing youth and inexperience.
Even our younger players are internationals
including Eriksen, Dier, Kane, Janssen and Son.
and have played in different leagues

The wrong signing and I think Rooney would be
could upset the unity, spirit and balance of the squad.
Need quality youth not some over the hill Billy Big Bollocks
with no sell on value or real hair.

MSL or China for big money transfer and wages I would think.
Three years too late for us
Not good enough for Man.Utd or England. (or Mrs Jones)
Not good enough for us.
Likes a Chinese by the look of him.

Just think we need someone who has actually won a few things and has PL / CL experience. A bit left field/different.

Think he would provide better cover than VC too.

I can't see us signing a top top player in his prime with similar experience.

Are you suggesting that you would prefer an ageing 31-year old Wayne Rooney, who can't even play as a striker anymore, to Janssen who's only 22?

The guy can't run anymore, basically can't be fitted into any position in a team, and is barely PL standard these days. Has been getting sympathy minutes for United, and even the England team, obsessed with 'names' in recent times and showing too much loyalty to them, have finally binned him for offering naff all.

But apart from that.....

Yes. Still think he would score more goals than Janssen as a striker. It's also what he brings in terms of actually winning experience which we don't have. He has medals.

None of our players has won major domestic honours. That's what I mean, wining experience. I also never heard of other players questioning his professionalism.

Not questioning his 'professionalism just his current abilities.
Though letting himself go , he's only 31 FFS as he has is hardly 'proffessional'

I'd rather have Carrick and he's a well preserved 35.

Winning experience is a stick
to beat up and coming teams and players with.
