I'm worried about this one. Not for the result, because I think we're good enough to beat them however negatively they play, but because they could give us more injury concerns. They're currently second in the yellow card rankings, and joint top for reds, and not without good reason. Plus we've got that fucker Atkinson in charge and he does like to "let things go".

Fucking hell.

Lol Son’s got about 3 reds himself.

This is an interesting one. On one hand i wouldn't mind them going the season unbeaten as 'The Invincibles' is the last thing that Arsenal fans are clinging on too.

On the other side of the coin, they are an annoying bunch of ****s so i would love 'Maureen' to nick a 1-0 and stick it to them

It would be hilarious if they went unbeaten and still didn't win the PL! It would shut up both sets of fans!

I don't mind Cowlin at all but I do find it absolutely ridiculous that he calls himself an author for making Spurs Quiz books...

I can buy a mental fatigue argument, but I don't buy that a professional sports team can build up 3 years of physical fatigue and it effects them in the fourth year.

With modern sports science, conditioning and recovery rates are heavily monitored and planned for respectively.

I think it's more of a case of (i) getting bored of the manager, (ii) the manager losing the tactical plot a little bit and (iii) mentally giving up.

That last point is unforgivable btw and I wonder if Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd are suffering from that too.

Cross country skiers train 1000 hours per year and then they have the competitions on top of that and they do that for like 20 years. Most of our players seems to have lost joy in playing football.

Yup, unfortunately that seems to have happened

I think it's one of the reasons Leicester have done so well lately; they're a hungry club, with hungry players

Nobody in their right mind would enjoy playing in a team thats struggling. You know when you're not playing well, fans are unhappy and you're unhappy in yourself. When you're on fire and playing well that breeds confidence and its self sustaining.

So what do you do? You knuckle down, work hard in training and games and concentrate on doing the simple things well. Your game gradually - or quickly - comes back.

It's all about what's between your ears. Do you throw in the towel and assume the foetal position or do you decide to get on with it and battle back?

Agree. Its a bit like depression. A downward spiral.
Thought we actually played well today all things considered. Actually looked like a team.
That said Lo Celso and Lamela have to start but I said that after the last game.

Most of our players seems to have lost joy in playing football.

Which I'd argue is simply due to a lack of non-football time.

No time to physically and mentally recover. Poch was about as intense as they come (ala Bielsa), yes the players get fitter and I don't believe there's such a thing as overtraining; I do however believe recover time is just as important as fitness. They are shot.

Have we got any salty West Ham fans about Gedson Fernandes?
Yes, let's get this thread back on track. Unfortunately they're being relatively sensible about it.

Whilst not letting our owners off the hook for being the loathsome, incompetent twunts that they are, I actually don’t hold them responsible for losing out on transfers like Fernandez (assuming we do lose out).

The player is being punted out by his agents to all and sundry. It isn’t his heartfelt lifelong ambition to pull on a claret and blue shirt. Of course he’s going to chose a club like Spurs over us.
Losing out on Fernandes to Tottenham is disappointing, but the fact is it is another criminal indictment of Sullivan. I think we should petition to the FA that he does not qualify as a “fit and proper person@ to own the club
so fernandes is going to spurs where he will sit on the bench most of the time but get experience of CL and top 6 team. why would he choose us for a relegation fight and no chance of CL or anything else. plus they have Mourinho and we have moyes. onto the next . if he doesn't want to play for us then sod him.
To be honest, I couldn't care less whether we get Fernandes or not. I just don't want us to spend 90% of the window chasing someone that doesn't particularly want to play for us.
You can bet your bottom dollar if Fernandes does go to Spurs our PR will be churning out the usual sound bites through the various mouthpieces:

He wanted Champions League football.

The manager wasn’t sure about him.

We did “everything we could.”

His wage demands were too high.

The player favours Jose over Moyes. (Although, they could hold fire on that one as not to blemish and risk further backlash their appointment of Moyes.)

We’re working ‘tirelessly around the clock’ on other transfers. Don’t go to sleep West Ham fans as exciting news of Fellani, Joe Allen and Darren Randolph all imminent.
:|
My final comment on gedson fernandes: google Renato sanches, seems a similar situation. Fernandes will probably prove me wrong by ripping up the league for spuds, but it was always a punt.
Though I'm seeing a few of them referencing a link to Sander Berge, the Genk DM we've been linked with several windows now. I really hope he doesn't end up there, he's way more talented than that.

Wouldn't be surprised if West ham have quite a poor reputation in Portugal after they pissed off the Sporting chairman.
