It seems a lot of people underestimate that we will improve massively just due to the experience are young team had in the title race last season. Add to that we strengthened our two weakest areas of the squad and will probably add another attacking player and I see no reason we won't finish top 4.

We're not finishing top 4 ffs. Christ almighty people. Only chance we have of that is if Modric or Bale come back or anpther world class player comes along

We got extremely lucky last year where the sky 4 all had down years and we were a fighting chance from a fighting chance at the title until we managed to fuck that up and finish 3rd in A 2 horse title race(who says spursy is dead?!) That chance wont happen 2 years in a row. City, Chelsea and United will be MUCH better this year. Arsenal could fuck up for 30+ games but they'll still finish above us because we havent proven we can string along a 38 game season under Poch. The top 4 will be back to normal.

We have a fantastic opportunity to distrupt it but look at this transfer window. Are we taking that opportunity? No. Will we? No. Can we? Well, no. We have a stadium to build.

Who do you think we should have signed?

We've signed a backup for up front and defensive midfield, which we needed badly and we already have a pretty decent first 11.

Plus a winger that is almost definitely signed.

Throw into that the likes of Winks, Edwards, Harrison and Carter-Vickers who are looking to come through, why would we splash loads of money on mercenaries who will just block their path?

Homegrown players are proven to play better for the team as well.

I can't see anywhere we are weak (for once!) or any other players that we needed to buy?

I said this at this beginning of last season. Probably nearly word-for-word. I leant you can never know what will happen.

I can't believe the amount of people who underestimate continuity and stability. No sweeping changes, but a young and very talented group of players who are being kept together and will continue to grow along with a few very shrewd signings to improve the depth of the squad in terms of quality options in all areas now covered.

I think we're in for a huge season. Yes other teams have added quality and have new managers, but there's certainly no guarantee that instant success and improvement is on the cards for any of them, in the collective sense.

I'd rather be coming off the back of a great season knowing that this young group of players have already got a great team spirit and unity, not to mention a great understanding on the pitch that will only get better.

I could see us losing a few more matches against Pep and Jose this year - but I think we're going to slice through a lot more of the middling and bottom teams. Less draws that cost us early on last season. We just need to get over the four games without Dembele unscathed.

No way leicester drop that much. Think liverpool and arsenal will be bang in the top 4 race, id have them above chelsea as it currently stands.

With all the money being spent by the sky 5, if we did finish 3rd, it would be absolutely fantastic

Why wouldn't Leicester drop that much? They "ROSE" that much last season, well more! They have a lot of poor to average players at PL level in that team and while the togetherness and form carried them through Simpson, Morgan and the rest didn't go from relegation/championship fodder to world class late in their careers. It's like when Ipswich came up, finished 5th then got relegated. I'm not saying they'll go down but if we look at 1st to 8th being Man City, Man U, Chelsea, Goons, Us, Liverpool, West Ham, Southampton, Everton, then they could easily finish 9th or 10th with the small squad, European games and a couple of injuries (which they avoided last season). It's not as clear cut as you are making out

I think we'll finish ahead of at least one of the Manchester clubs and we'll be top team in London

Afraid of City under Guardiola?

Let me remind you of a man who won more points against arguably the best team in the modern era than any other manager.

He took over a bankrupt team in the relegation zone and sold all his best players every season.

He also led his club to the first victory at the Camp Nou in 27 years.

Guardiola? Come on

Actually looking back for the past 10 years that's exactly what has happened. The big money spending sides have finished in the top 4. In fact if you go all the way back to 2003 the top 4 has been dominated by Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool until City got their oil money and they displaced Liverpool.

Since City arrived in the top 4 Liverpool have been the only side to break the top 4 cartel until last season. I believe it will be business as usual this season. I hope I'm wrong and the TV money may well benefit the smaller teams as they will not have to sell.

Look back as far as you want and it there is a clear correlation between wage spending and league position. Last season was a freak and I do hope it can happen again but I wouldn't put money on it.

City's first top 4 finish was 2011. Since then 2 out of 5 seasons have had the expected top 4 - we broke in in 2012, Liverpool in 2014, and both us and Leicester in 2016.

Thought I'd start a new thread in order to collate any articles, video, interviews etc where pundits, managers, players, journos talk about us. Similar to the opponents fans thread, but probably with even more vitriol! :joyful:

I'll kick this off with an interview Rio Ferdinand has given BT Sport, where he says we'll be third behind the two Manchester clubs, with Goons, Chelski and Liverpool competing for 4th.

http://metro.co.uk/2016/08/04/rio-f...tle-for-final-champions-league-place-6048811/

Whether it comes true or not remains to be seen. However it is refreshing to finally see a pundit show us and Poch a bit of respect for what we did last season and see that there's no reason we can't do even better with the squad we have.

I don't think he's far off with that.

Baffles me that at the start of every season that the bookies think Liverpool will do better than us.

I dont see it. Cities defence is shit. United aint much better. I dont see them beating us. Draw.
