Which player from the past would you have liked to see under Poch?

I find it slightly odd that some people are mentioning players that Poch actually sold.

I know we're supposed to be picking underwhelming players, but Ardiles. For a few reasons. Most importantly, we'd have Ardiles playing at a time when players aren't allowed to kick other players with near impunity, which immediately makes Ardiles one of the best handful of players in the world. Trivially, he's Argentinian. Less trivially, he'd basically be a better Eriksen, which (a) means we'd be fucking amazing and (b) makes Eriksen the best bench player we've ever had.

i would have loved to see Poch with a few of our players from the 80s who never quite lived up to their potential. Nico Claesen comes to mind, very talented player who got so few chances . Hazard could have been the next Hoddle, Gough and Waddle might never have left. In the 90s Nayim was such a talented player who could have produced much more, Anderson could have been fitter and stronger. Going back in the past what could Poch have done to harness the huge talents of Alfie Conn and the few great years that Martin Chivers had with us could have been extended further.

Nice idea for a thread.

What could you possibly mean by prankster ?? ;) This is one of my favourite stories about him...

The reason I picked Gazza is because I think under Poch he might have stayed at Spurs and that perhaps the wild tackle which resulted in his major injury would have been avoided under his guidance. Although Poch is a strict disciplinarian he has also stated his desire not to take that "rebel" side out of Dele Alli's character and he would have been just the same with Gazza. He'd have kept that wild side but perhaps tempered and controlled it more to the benefit of both the player and the team. Alas, we will never know.

There is a difference though. Alli comes across as a model pro outside the pitch. He seems willing to learn and professional, He's got 'grinta' and is aggressive on the pitch, maybe overly so sometimes, but Poch loves that all. Off the pitch Alli is completely different. He is not rebellious at all outside it, he actually appears quite the opposite.

Apparently, in a Rose interview, Poch is not hyper controlling in what people do in their free time. He doesn't mind too much if people go for a drink as long as when they are on the training ground they give their all.

Now Gazza might actually be a good trainer and there might of been not a problem on that front. But Poch doesn't like being questioned, doesn't people reacting unprofessionally or egoistically at decisions he makes, seeing them as undermining the whole team mentality. I'm not sure Gazza would of handled that.

Gio dos Santos. That kid needed a teacher, not 'Arry. Could have been lethal from any of the AM positions but didn't have a clue what to do without the ball.

Me too, there are a hell of a lot of names being bandied about in here that don't make much sense at all. Our fans are under the false illusion that Poch can work miracles with almost any player in the world. This unfortunately is not the case at all.

Poch gets the most out of players who are dedicated, and have complete faith in his philosophy. If you don't sign up to his programme he ships you out. You only have to look at Bentaleb to see that.

If a player has the wrong personality, he's not going to be able to do anything with them. It's the hard working players with underlying talent that excell under him. Someone like VDV wouldn't stand a chance. Sadly neither would Ginola.

However, the likes of Jenas, Parker, Carr, Keane, King etc would likely flourish under his style of management.
