Leipzig players are bigger, stronger and faster than ours. All over the pitch. Players like Winks are totally ineffective in the engine against superior athletes. The way Leipzig win the ball back or smother foul as soon as they lose it is reminiscent of how we played under Poch with two monsters in Dembele and Wanyama in 2016. I want a serious upgrade in CM to give us more power and protect our defence.
in a nutshell. our engine room is powered by Dacia

With the exception of Kane, Son, Lo Celso, Bergwjin, and Sanchez, I think everyone else could be jettisoned from the squad over the next two years. Depending on needs and form.

Given the above, you can see what a huge task we have on our hands. Which is why the biggest change jose needs is a DoF. Someone who can identify the players the manager needs to implement his system... albeit within a tight budget. Someone who has the ability to uncover talent that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Someone who won't break the bank on players with potential character issues. That shit has to stop. No more taking a punt on someone just cos the price is right. We have to have a cohesiveness plan from top to bottom of the club. A creed and philosophy we are completely aligned with.

There are no shortcuts. But the journey to get back to where we were, will go a lot smoother if the club is completely united in the approach. And the players we recruit are also fully invested in the collective.

Over this time we will need at least eight new players.
GK,
2 fullbacks
Cb
CDM
Midfielder
AM
Attacker

Gonna take a minute to get there. And it might get worse before things start to improve.

I’d hope we target young and British over the next couple of windows. Players who want to prove themselves. Players who will put everything in to further their own careers. Good physical specimens as well, no more small players.

Alongside that target a couple of top PL players - with experience and potential, like we did with Dembele, Wanyama and Toby.

Not that I have any idea who I want us to sign. I know I don’t want Aarons,he just reminds me of KWP. Would’ve like to have gone for Bowen.

We will need to sell some top players for funds and also because their hearts will have moved on. Kane will give us one more season I think to see what Jose can do and to avoid disruption in WC year.

Everyone looks out of sorts. Aside from the key players of Kane and Son, and new signings of Lo Celso and Bergwijn, everyone else should consider their place up for grabs. Whether some time off and new signings will reinvigorate them remains to be seen - it might lift the squad to see some new faces and enthusiasm - but this funk has dragged on for a long time and Spurs has gone from one of the youngest squads to one of the oldest. All comes back to the lack of investment 2 seasons ago, when the team was in a position of strength. Now they are fighting from underneath, probably without European football next season, and it'll be that much harder.

On the chopping block for sure should be (IMO):
Aurier, and we need at least 2 new right backs.
Rose, and we need at least 2 left backs (maybe one can be Cirkin?)
Lamela, mostly due to injuries. He tries hard when he plays but that injury isn't going away.

Assuming Vorm will go, so probably Brandon Austen or Alfie Whiteman will take his place as 3rd choice.
Vertonghen in a reduced role for next season, which means another CB has to come in.

I'm not in favour of selling everyone. New signings should be better than the player they replace, pushing that player to the bench or challenging them to improve. If they aren't up for that then they can go.

At a minimum it means signing two right backs, two left backs, a centre back, a centre midfielder and new striker this summer. Then next summer probably a new top choice goalie (Hugo will be 34), another new defender as Alderweireld's successor, and who knows where else. Maybe a midfield overhaul if Dier isn't improving or Sissoko's pace is dropping by then. This could have been a gradual process but they didn't do that and now it's going to be very expensive.

Hopefully most of them cos let's face it, not one of our back 5 (4 plus GK ) is good enough, so that's 5 plus a DM, if N'dombele doesn't produce, another Midfielder plus an attacking forward who can also play CF and perhaps a number 10 (depending on Dele). How has it got to the stage where we need so many players in one window ? no forward thinking by Poch / Levy, bloody disgraceful and no way to run a football club.
Over the last 4 season's we have bought in 2 defenders ( first team squad) and let 4 go, no wonder we are in a mess !!!!

I hope that nationality (or indeed race, colour, creed, sexual orientation etc) are the last criteria we target. I want us to sign the best players possible, who fit into a defined, cohesive and aligned plan, irrespective of where they are from.

Some people think our transfer business in the summer will be like Ocado. Players are under contract and cannot be forced to move.

Erm, nationality literally has to play a part in our decisions due to the homegrown players rule.

We’ve also had significant success in buying young English players in the past, are known for consistently using English players, and are generally admired for doing so.

It’s not racist to want to sign young English players

I didn't say anything about racism. I said I don't care about the nationality of players we sign. There is little proven correlation between buying British players and being successful.

It does seem that we changed our recruitment policy as most of the recent acquisitions are smaller less strong versions of the players they’ve replaced.

Well if you want a full squad then you need homegrown players. There are more homegrown British players than non-Brits so can't be discounted as a factor.

Problem is the players we want to keep aren't going to hang around wasting the best years of their careers while DL negotiates himself into a black hole trying to do these deals. If you're Kane or Son, why stay on the promise we'll be competitive in 2 or 3 years time?

This is the more salient point rather than nationality imo. Poch really liked technical players and favoured them over pace and power. Jose historically is the opposite, so I'd expect (hope) to see a more dynamic and powerful set of players signed in the summer

If we focus on signing the right players, then Ill be happy. Its rather obvious that we have to sign them within the rules of the completion we've signed up for, so no real need to state it imo.

You might call it obvious but it often gets ignored.

Our homegrown players include Rose, Davies, Winks, Walker Peters, Dier and Alli. All those players are being touted to be sold so if we are to sell and buy then we are going to need to target homegrown players to buy, it's rather obvious.

Dier's not HG
Davies not HG for the purposes of CL.

However, with Tanganga coming into the picture, Sessegnon, promote Cirkin to first team perhaps, Parrot, Bring in Ferguson or Aarons, keep Winks/Dele? Buy Eze and perhaps Godfrey... we'll be fine. Space for an academy or home grown GK, too.

I really think we need a new spine for a 'new project'.

Buy:

GK (own his area, good feet) - No idea
CB (leader) - Koulibaly?
CM (monster DCM) - Ndidi?
CF (athletic target man) - Omishen?

Plus we need better FBs, ones who can actually defend.

Sell:

Lloris
Aurier
Foyth
Verts (out of contract),
Gedson (not make permanent), Lamela (too injury prone)

Net Spend will need to be significant.
