I am being as realistic as I possibly can as we cannot sell half our team and we need some of them for the home grown quota.

I have also only mentioned the youngsters who I think will make appearances next season.

Keep first team
Harry Kane
Son Heung-Min
Steven Bergwijn
Gio Lo Celso
Tanguy Ndombele
Japhet Tanganga

Keep squad players
Dele Alli
Jack Clarke
Harry Winks
Oliver Skipp
Gedson Fernandes (I don't think we have a choice as of his loan)
Dennis Cirkin
Ryan Sessegnon
Paulo Gazzaniga

Keep but also listen to offers/sell if replacements available
Eric Lamela
Lucas Moura
Moussa Sissoko
Eric Dier
Davinson Sanchez
Toby Alderwerield
Hugo Lloris

Loan
Troy Parrot
Juan Foyth

Sell/let go
Jan Vertonghen
Serge Aurier
Ben Davies
Danny Rose
Kyle Walker-Peters
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Michel Vorm

He’s been our best defender this season and yet the brainiacs on this forum are only able to judge a player’s ability based on their last game. Pathetic.

The bar of being our best defender isn’t high. We’re judging him on his performance across the season and isn’t anywhere near being a top 4 def.

No chance, absolutely no chance he’ll be close to one of the worlds best. He’s got fundamental flaws in his game that won’t improve with time and even the things he can improve a bit on, In three years he’s still not ironing them out.

this. He’s not improving and is the same player (if not worse) than the one we signed 3 years ago. He may be one of the worst players in the league with the ball at his feet, can’t pass to save his life, still can’t judge long balls in the air, and gets dragged way out of position way too easily.

Been watching The Last Dance on Netflix.

The drive, determination and leadership shown by Michael Jordan is incredible.

Bad news: no one at Spurs is anywhere close to that level of commitment.

Good news: talent may not be the issue. One leader could drag the team to greatness. Just need to find him.

I think its unrealistic to think that we can have a massive clear out.
The question should also include who can you keep but buy to improve on squad quality allowing current players to provide squad depth.

Must keep:
Lloris
Dier
Lo Celso
N'Dombele
Son
Tanganga
Kane

Keep but provide upgrades/competition/squad depth
Sanchez
Toby
Sessegnon
Winks
Bergwijn
Aurier (by virtue of having no other RB!)
Gazzaniga
Alli (would sell if we can get a good price)

Backups but sell if we can upgrade on the above list
Jan
Foyth
Davies
Lamela (loved him but never really fulfilled his potential)
Sissoko
Moura

Kane
Bergwijn
Son
Clarke - He needs a bite at the cherry
Ndombele - to see if he can turn it around. If not then have him shot at the centre circle ? as and example to others
Skipp
Winks - as a No. 8 only!
Lo Celso
Tanganga
Sess
Lloris

Realistically it's going to be hard to offload anyone on a long-term contract in the current climate. Levy will need to adjust his approach - offer players out for low prices, cancel contracts etc. It's the only way I foresee a rebuild happening. We need to return to the policy of buying young and cheap and hoping for a diamond or two.

I would want to keep

Lloris

Tanganga
Foyth
Kwp
Sanchez
Sess

GLC
Ndombele
Skipp
Winks

Son
Dele
Bergwijn
Clarke

Kane
Parrott

The thread has hit the nail on the head. We need to be prepared to let players go who we all like so that we can generate enough capital to spend on the positions we need.

And this may unfortunately take a few seasons...

Urgh, so many bad takes like this from The Last Dance. Yes, Jordan was relentless in pushing his team-mates, but he also had some of best team-mates around, and a team built with great balance and contrasting styles that fitted system the coach wanted to play.

So, no, just getting in a Roy Keane-type to scream and bully other players is not a sure-fire way to greatness.

When was the last time we sold a player and replaced them with an upgrade? Based on our recruitment of the last 5 years id say we are heading downwards fast and if its true we are on a limited budget then we will need to sign some battlers as will be in a dogfight at the bottom based on current trend. If we are to make any sort of changes the key signing without any doubt in my mind is the head of recruitment or whoever gets the deals done.

We used to sell a top player now and again and replace them with younger, up and coming players who would eventually grow to fill the space.

Thing is we did that by buying players like Eriksen and many others for effectively cut price fees, from smaller clubs and leagues, giving them their opportunity in the PL with a relatively big club, and the chance to move to somewhere even bigger. So there was very little risk involved.

It's what we've basically tried to do by buying Lo Celso, Stevie, Tanguy and Sess, only these days it's not possible to get cut prices for "promising but unproven at this level" players, all players are overpriced to the level of complete insanity, no matter where you buy them from. So we've ended up spending record amounts on players who won't even be up to speed until next season, let alone prove themselves to be worthy replacements of previous star players.

We can't be as clever as we used to be.

I don't think it's as easy as saying who I'd like to keep and replace because there's levels to it. I think the only top talents we have that regularly show it are Kane, Son, Bergwijn and Lo Celso and then we have a few players who could potentially do it in their position in Ndombele, Sessegnon, possibly Foyth and skipp. We also have Hugo who does make mistakes but is clearly one of the best in the business but I'd argue he's coming to the end of his time at the top level. So I'd probably so if money was no object I'd keep a total of 6 players which is absolutely unrealistic.

So then we're looking at the positions that absolutely need an upgrade and we can't suffer the same shit yet again and two stick out which is RB and DM. I'd personally argue we need to replace the entire backline so again it's unrealistic and why I don't see how we can make a list of who we would keep or sell because it depends on the amount of business we're willing to do. I'd probably aim to keep the 6 I mentioned and replace the entirety of the rest of the squad over the next 3 seasons.

That's not what I'm saying.

I'm trying to highlight the differences between talent, drive and leadership.

I do think you raise a good, further, point with 'balance' though.

Liverpool certainly have exceptional balance.
