He has a preference for Arsenal?
There are easier ways to see eastern Europe kid

This time next year we could be without Toby and Jan.

Cool. Doesn't change the fact he is so obviously not tweeting his own info.

It’s very odd to get any journos with their own info. If they throw enough ‘exclusive’ sh*t at the wall, some of it’s bound to stick.
They mostly rehash previous reports and use them as their own.

This kid looks pretty damn good unfortunately. Have a feeling the deal to Arsenal is pretty much done and this is just the press creating a bit of drama, or St Etienne looking to string a bit of extra cash out of Arsenal.

I agree. I cant believe either us or arsenal (with their apparent tight transfer budget) would by him for 30 million euros though and then loan him back. Doesn't sound like us or them.

Why would Arsenal be a players preferred choice in the current climate? They won't offer more money, a better area to live, better facilities or a better coaching team to work under.

If you're a professional, you choose the best place to further your career and at the moment we are a much better place to do that than Arsenal

I'm pretty sure that due to Wenger and the invincible era that Arsenal are the best supported club in France. Historically with the likes of Henry, Petit, Vieria, Pires etc they are probably seen as a big pull still.

Pretty much this.

I've been watching the transfer updates on AFTV (and The United Stand) over the last couple of weeks.

It seems that Arsenal are quite rigidly sticking to their £40m + sales budget and it's causing them issues.

The problem they've got is that that are plenty of players that would go to them (Tierney, Saliba, etc), but their transfer fees would pretty much eat all of their funds.

And their sales won't generate that much revenue either.

So they've got a bit of a headache, juggling purchases, sales, young prospects, free transfers, etc.

What a shame

@Hercules

I'm guessing that my analysis is wrong

He might just enjoy them being in the shit.

No mate. Your analysis was spot on!

It was more ‘larfing@ the#gypsies’ ?

Glad to hear it

PS There was a funny story yesterday about Emery going to the Arsenal board demanding more funds to sign Zaha.

It's like that scene when Partridge has the meeting in the restaurant:

"They won't give me a Wilfred Zaha"

"Go on, give him a Wilfred Zaha, you swine"

"Yeah, give me a Wilfred Zaha, you shit!"

I really like the look of this guy. Just the type of player we should be going for, cost permitting.

Annoying the goons would be an extra delight

They've spend 150m in fees and are spending 800-900k per week in wages on the likes of Özil, Mkhitarian, Aubameyang, Sokratis and Koscielny. All above 30, who reperesent little value and are generally on the downward slope of their careers (although some will have a few good years left in them). These guys eat up a lot of the budget with a rapidly diminishing ROI.
They also have some younger players like Guendouzi and Torreira who might develop. But there are no players they could sell now for megabucks to boost their budget for rebuilding the squad.
They will also be massively in the red for the season just finished (prediction of Swiss Ramble). And they've missed out on the Champions League yet again.
The're not in a very good position at the moment. It'l be up to Levy to make the most of this change in fortunes...

Why on earth would he favour the goons

Possibly because they've tracked him for longer and have made promises about first team opportunities - a reversal of the Vertonghen situation with us in a sense. They might also be offering him high wages...and before anyone says "well if he wants that he's an idiot", it is a factor.

Otherwise, on the face of it, we're in a better position in most other aspects, in particular in terms of managerial stability and quality of squad.

What i particularly like about his sensible post is that 99% of people on here won't apply the same logic to us with NDombele
