Who can we get in January who is going to immediately hit the ground running and then be happy sat on the bench when Kane returns from injury? Who is available?
Just looking at who is being linked with Manchester United today confirms how weak the market is currently. If the richest club in England is looking at a loan from Leicester and Odion Ighalo you know it's a bit of a wasteland.

There is NO WAY Levy try and trick Mou with signings he doesn't want. If we signe this guy it's cause Mourinho gave his approval.

Now, if Levy appointed a yes man or someone that felt lucky just coaching us, like Howe, I'd be worried. Instead Levy did the ballsy move hiring the one manager that will slag him off if he feel neglected (and the media will listen).

We could be out of the FA cup by the weekend, no striker signed who could help, clearly levy and the board have no real interest in maximising our chances of actually winning a trophy.

This guy looks more of a Mourinho striker than Piatek to me. Jose likes a battering ram up front who frightens CBs whereas Piatek looks more in the Ian Rush style (i.e. bagging goals but not offering a whole lot else). IMO, with Lo Celso, Ndombele, Gedson we have a much higher possibility of goals from midfield than previosly and don't need to rely almost exclusively on goals from our forwards. A player like JW might fit in quite nicely setting up those sort of opportunities and would also offer the option of Kane playing off his shoulder.

I was just going to say the same thing. I feel like Piatek is more of a Levy opportunistic buy, where even if he doesn't work out he would likely hold his value for a resale. Willian Jose seems more like the kind of hard-nosed, effective players that Mourinho targets, who may not be as good of an investment, but will perform the role he needs to make his team work. Our buy for profit ways have not exactly panned out well in recent years, so I feel like getting the right player for the tactic may turn out to be a better move.

The problem is. When targets are only really ticking the “happy to sit on the bench” box the talent pool won’t be good enough but to reiterate why do we need someone who’s happy to sit on the bench when Kane is injured so frequently. We cannot just have one good striker a huge gulf in quality for a second striker. If we do then we’ll be second rate for half the season. Jose even directly addresses this in his presser after the Norwich game.

So sign no one this Jan then? Because strikers who are on a similar level to Kane definitely aren’t available in Jan

Another issue that should have been dealt with in previous windows but I didn’t actually say we shouldn’t sign anyone this Jan nor did I say we sign someone on a similar level to Kane. No need to put words in mouths.

We can laugh but this could be reality
Actually if we signed Jose or Piatek then i’d be happy for us to bring in Benteke on loan as a sub option. Give H the rest of the season off unless we really need him.

Of course you don't. You're moaning that we're getting a striker on the cheap instead of getting in someone quality. Someone quality probably isn't available in January.
Well why don't we buy in the summer?

And there is the answer - we’re not gonna smash our wage structure for essentially a 33 yr old injury prone back up striker.
You flip flop your points to fit.
There are no Kane level forwards available in January.

apart from Cavani

who will want huge wages

because he’s Kane level

but we won’t pay that.

There are Kane level players available but we needn’t worry about signing them because we won’t pay the wages.
