Six players back into the starting line-up after they were either rested or on the bench for our midweek Champions League match at Bayern Munich - Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen, Dele, Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane all return. It's the same line-up that toppled Burnley 5-0 last weekend.

TEAM FORM ____ Wolves __DDWDW _____ Spurs __ WWL
WL ____ (All Competitions)

Wolves won their last Premier League (PL) meeting with us 3-1 ay Wembley in December 2018. They have not won consecutive games against us since completing the league double over is in the 2009-10 campaign. They are unbeaten in 11 PL games (W5 D6), last having a longer run without defeat in the top flight between Feb and Sept 1959 (18).

Since the start of last season, Wolves have takn more points from the 2018-19 top six than any other team who finished outside of these places (21 - W5 D6 L5). Raul Jiminez has been directly involved in 40% of wolves' 191 shots in the PL this season (49 shots; 28 chances crreated) - the highest ratio of any player in the division.

We have lost only one of our five PL away games against Wolves (W3 D1), going down 0-1 in February 2010. We have won three of our four PL matches under Mourinho (L1), as manay as we did in our final 15 under Poch (W3 D6 L6). We scored 3 goals per game under Mourhino, compared to 1.3 in those final 15 under Poch.

We have lost 10 of our last 14 PL away games (W1 D3) - our previous 10 defeats on the road came across a 44 game spell. We last suffered more away league deeats in a single calender year back in 2006 (11). We have faced 58 shots on target in away games in the PL this season, more than any other side. Our record of facing 7.3 shots on target per away game is the highest on record for us since 2203-04 and the highest of any PL team since Fulham in 2013-14 (7.6)

Dele has been involved in 8 PL goals in 9 games this season (5 Goals 3 Assists), as many as he was in 25 appearances in the competition last season. Kane has scored 9 PL goals this season, and could become the first player to score 10+ in six consecutive top-flight campaigns for us since Robbie Keane (2002-03 to 207-08).

With Chelsea losing, we have to win this one to be right up there challenging for 4th going into the new year. I am confident that Everton can at least get a draw against Man Utd, with big Duncan in charge

Tough looking fixture. If Kane, Dele and Son are in the mood I think we'll edge this.

2-1 Spurs. Kane brace.

That was when the start of the rot became apparent. On a brighter note, it will be nice to turn them over and draw a line under the last year's form, it will shut my Yam-Yam brother in law up too, he came with us to Wembley for that game and crowed quite a bit.

I think tomorrow is an opportunity to really make a statement of intent, Wolves home or away is a really difficult fixture, turn up like we did at Utd & we’ll get dealt with, difficult to call but I’m going for 2-2 score draw ........

Another tough away fixture. I’ve not checked our second half of the year but fuck me it must be a lot easier.

Anyway, I think we’ll draw. And then beat Chelsea next week to really put ourselves back in the race. It’s okay. (y)

I agree with others - this one worries me. The players surely won’t be as bad as there were at OT right? Yeh? Surely.. yeh we’ll be fine :cautious:

We've been presented with a gift wrapped opportunity to close the gap on Chelsea. Trying hard not to think about how this scenario habitually plays out.

Your intuition is not especially well founded! I can only gauge this season's schedule by comparing it to last season's results. I mentioned this when the schedule was released,, but here it is again.

Last season, the equivalent fixtures to our first 19 matches generated us 48 points.

The equivalent fixtures to our last 19 matches generated us 23 points.

Starting on 1 January with Southampton and ending on 21 March with West Ham, we have a sequence of 11 league matches that gained us only 6 points last year. As usual, I have substituted the equivalent promoted sides for the matches against relegated sides.

The sequence of 11 matches between 9 November and 28 December produced 27 points in the equivalent matches last season.

It's just an oddity, but it has made our progress, or lack thereof, very difficult to assess this season.

Chelsea lost, so we have a great chance to close the gap. We all know whats gonna happen next, dont we?

It's not a great chance to close the gap, it's a chance but that's it. Wolves haven't lost at home since September. A win would be a massive bonus here given the respective fixtures this weekend.

Huge game this to put pressure on the top four... I suspect Manure will win their game, theyre on a decent run of form now...

6-3 Spurs.
