Former US Womens keeper with presumably totally made up name "Hope Solo" says the gap between what women at this years work cup earn verses what men earned last year is unnaceptable and is suing (some one, I don't know who)

At no point does it mention about 2 billion people tune in to the mens final and hundreds of millions watch the whole tournament.
I literally didn't know there was a women's world cup this year and don't really care I didn't know.

As far as I'm concerned, they're two different sports so far as the gulf in quality is concerned. It's got nothing to do with sexism and everything to do with marketability. If no one watches women's football, where does she think all the hundreds of millions will come from?

It's such a silly debate, there isn't the market for womens football to make paying them millions profitable.

once crowds and interest grows im sure money will too.

The article isn't about wages really, its about prize money and the money going into the women's game in general, wages is mentioned but that's separate from this issue.

United States World Cup winner Hope Solo says that the disparity in prize money at the men's and women's World Cups shows that "male chauvinism is entrenched" in Fifa.

and then

"The state of the game is in a beautiful place because of the talent alone and the commercial dollars being put in, but Fifa remain very chauvinistic when it comes to putting money into the women's game and we really could do a lot better job," she said

And then

"We need to put in more money from grassroots all the way up to more prize money in the World Cup. Fifa needs to get its hands a little bit wet in terms of addressing these issues and being hands on. Right now, they address the women's game with a 20-foot pole and remain quiet"

And finally, wages is mentioned but only in the context of how players are expected to fund things that would otherwise be provided as a given if the federations got more money

Since she and other members of US Soccer challenged their federation about equal pay, she has learned how some players have to negotiate with their federations about whether they pay for internet access in hotels and receive tracksuits.

"Some of the minute things players are fighting for break my heart. We shouldn't be fighting our federations for internet, or players having to pay out of their own pockets," she said

I doubt they actually expect full-on parity, but it's a game they all play, demand a lot and get a bit, do it in increments, bit by bit and if the womens game ever actually gets anywhere near a par with regard money coming in, then they'd be entitled to complain a lot more about it.

Nearly 800 million watched the last Women's World Cup, hardly 'no one' but still it's a way off what the mens game brings in. Personally I think it's fair enough to expect a bigger increase than they got given how much more popular women's football has become.

As for wages, that's not a FIFA issue that's down to the clubs who employ them, surely?

FIFA is a not-for-profit who’s (supposed) mission is to plough the money back into the game all over the world, especially at grassroots level. Commercial popularity should not be the prime consideration for distribution of investment in the men’s or women’s international game. Otherwise you just increase the divide between the haves and the have nots.

isn't she the one who got caught up when all the nudes got leaked? and her minge looked like it had been pulverized with a meat tenderizer?

I really think that FIFA. FA and all the others should be helping out the lower league and grassroot football both men's and women's game.
there is so much money going into the top leagues and teams, as for FIFA they get so much money for doing nothing imho.

Wages/Prize money - it's about money @Archibald&Crooks.
Womens football just doesn't generate it on the scale of mens football. No matter how hard it's pushed on us, it's a tiny sport compared to the mens game.

I just can't see how this simple fact hasn't been pointed out and the whole thing just knocked on the head.

I mean, I'd like to earn the same as some one at rival to my company. They generate $235m profit a year, we generate $80m profit. Why shouldn't I earn what they earn?

She also beat up two members of her family at a cookout at their house and got arrested, then threatened the police...

In June 2014, Solo was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence assault. According to the police reports, Solo, who "appeared to have been drinking," reportedly got into an argument with her nephew which escalated, causing her to "charge" at him. Solo reportedly "punched him in the face and tackled him," until her half-sister attempted to stop the fight, at which point Solo is said to have allegedly "punched her in the face 'several times.'" The nephew then reportedly broke a wooden broom over Solo's head and "pointed a BB gun at her."

Solo then left for a moment, but returned and allegedly "assaulted her sister some more," according to the affidavit. Solo told police that she did not instigate any physical fighting, but rather that her nephew hit her with a broom after she had called him "fat and unathletic." The Washington Post reports that, upon her arrest, Solo allegedly fought police, and reportedly taunted (while allegedly intoxicated): "You’re such a b----. You’re scared of me because you know that if the handcuffs were off, I’d kick your [expletive]."

In this instance its about the wages they earn representing the national team. The USA men's team earned $9m for reaching the last sixteen in 2014, but the USA women's team that won the tournament in 2015 earned $2m. The women's team have won three world cups, and sell out stadiums, but don't earn even a quarter of the amount the men take home.

I mean, I'd like to earn the same as some one at rival to my company. They generate $235m profit a year, we generate $80m profit. Why shouldn't I earn what they earn?

But the women's team and the men's team play for the same company. If you weren't paid the same basic rate as the woman sitting next to you who does the same job you'd be pretty upset.

Unless I’ve misunderstood you, It really really isn’t. That may well be an ongoing issue I’m not sure but in this instance, in the article in question, it’s about prize money. Read the quotes it’s plain enough.

When women's football is as comercially succesful as men's football fair enough, but until then...not for me.

It's not near the same level.
I doubt the best womens football team could win the u23 mens world cup. The U23s don't get 2 million for winning. Added to that the u23's world cup is probably more popular.

My mistake, u20's world cup. point still stands.
One for you name 10 women footballers.
Ada Hegerberg
Caroline Graham Hansen
Maren Mjelde
Guro Reiten
Marta
Karen Carney
Fran Kirby
Carli Lloyd
Alex Morgan
Megan Rapinoe

And no, I didn't google anything.

I don't disagree with your point (but you set me a challenge so I thought why the hell not). Hell a few years ago a bog standard U18s boys side beat a women's tpp flight team in a friendly here in Norway. I'd back the U20 mens WC winner no problem, maybe (probably) even the U17 WC winner.

But it isn't just about quality, otherwise women's tennis players wouldn't have the same prize money as men's in Grand Slams.

Firstly you win (you could of written any names and you would of won, such is my knowledge)
I don't think they should. They should play first to 3 sets like the men to get the same money. Why should men have to play longer to get the same money. Plus the men bring in more money.
If you were paid the same basic rate as the woman sitting next to you, who does the same job but doesn't have to work half as hard, you should be upset, but they don't complain.
Saying that at least women's tennis is comercially successful.
