The VAR system took a serious blow tonight. Badly used and especially in Iran-Portugal it took way too long to reach decisions. Shades of Spurs v Rochdale.

It's mostly been used well so far, more good calls than bad calls or non calls, but today it was bad.

Correctly reversed an offside to give Spain their equaliser.

For Ronaldo’s penalty did anyone see the Iranian guy go and move the ball on the spot?

VAR is shit. Shitty official in the booth? Shitty referee on the pitch? It doesn't work in either instance and we've seen both this tournament. For it to work you need both to be competent.

I think it will iron itself out over time.

Apart from the playacting and the crowd using those f****** vuvuzelas, proud of Iran. Lived up to the nickname, Shirdelaan (Lionhearts) in that match. They made a good fist of it and can go home with their heads held high.

Now to concentrate on England.

Shirdelaan’t to shoot. Would’ve knocked the Ports out

Yeah, I had my eyes more on Iran v Portugal but didn't it take ages to reach the decision in the Spain game too?

I think it took a while to get the right angle and to get a line on the pitch, ultimately the right decision was made.

I think shit ref on the pitch mostly. A review doesn't mean that he has to give it and that penalty Iran got certainly wasn't one. Add that Iran were denied a pen much earlier and all VAR calls in the match took ages.

It only takes one awful ref to bring the system down

VAR quickly becoming a farce in this tournament. I've never seen the ref so much in the limelight as in the second half of that Portugal game.
I think it's more the one or two clowns not getting the decisions right, or the stupid directive they're given from FIFA to give those type of things, than VAR itself. There's been far more good uses of VAR than bad ones.

Sort of. But their play acting and being cocks, rolling about, ultimately cost them playing time. Rather than whinging and going on and on at the worst ref ever, they should have been playing football. Anyway, good effort.

When a ref makes the wrong decision after watching it on a tv screen 20 times they should be struck off never to officiate again. There's no excuse.

It's not about opinion. It's somebody making the wrong decision when the answer is infront of them.

You can only assume they are corrupt.

There will always be problems with it. The NFL still haven't ironed them all out and they've been trying one system or another since the mid 80's. GER/SWE Boateng non-penalty. The Iran penalty today. Too many problems. It's going to add just as many mistakes as it fixes.
