Did anyone see devastating Zenit performance v Bayer yesterday?
Arshavin was terrific. Scored one brilliant individual goal and set up another for Pogrebnyak. Moreover Ramos knows Arshavin very well from his Seville days. He was instrumental in signing Arshavin's best pal Kerzhakov from Zenit.

"Arshavin- 9.0
A deceptive player, whose change of pace caused Leverkusen all sorts of problems. Created and scored the first goal himself. He then created the second for Pogrebnyak and was a real live-wire throughout. A real gem. "

Didn't see the game but have always been impressed whenever I have seen him. Would definetly be happy to see him at the Lane. Have a feeling that it if we were to try and get him that it would be better to try before the Euro's because his value is likely to improve if Russia do well

Depends how he could adapt to the English game, how his style would suit the English game, how it would suit our team/Ramos' vision for our team etc etc.

I dont know enough about him to be honest, I have seen him a couple of times, he has always looked to be a talented player (plus he has a fair amount of hype around him) would he be a good signing for us? I really dont know

Would be good to hear from people who watch him more closely (if there are such people here)

From my understanding he is a bit of a utlity player, does this mean he is a jack of all trades? Where would we employ him?
I cant see him being the man off the striker for us,

as a centre midfielder?? hmm, creative but his he strong/mobile enough?

Winger?? maybe, in the Pieres mould

I havnt seen enough of him play to comment intellegently myself, but I would like to hear the views of others on such possibilities

Thing is Arshavin is disqualified for the first two games and Russia may not go through group stage.

He plays Attacking mid, right mid, or up front doesn't he? Shame he's not left footed. If Lennon goes he'd be a great replacement.

I watch him closely, because Zenit is my hometown team.
Arshavin is attacking midfielder in my view. He is like 10 times upgrade on Steed. He scores more. He's a match winner.

From the little I've seen of him he looks a very good prospect.

Similar in style to kranjar at Pompey but more athletic. I think he could play well in LM role if given the same sort of freedom as Kranjar gets and Arterta gets when he plays wide. He'd bring a good deal more creativity into our midfield.

Ok, so if we assume he would be a good signing and an upgrade on what we have currently, what do you suppose the chances of us signing him are (assuming we were interested)

Would we face competition from the big four ? maybe the likes of Newcastle and Man City offering more wages? Its a move I could see happening, it wouldnt suprise me at all to see him come to England, wheter or not it would be to us is a differnt story.

Is he a player in the Riquelme mould? or more of a Pieres style player?

Im quite interested in this potential signing, as it seems we have been linked to him long term (although we now have a new manager in place) and he certain seems to be held in high regard on the world stage.

Thanks Ostrov for the info - good to have a first-hand opinion from someone on here that hasn't just used Football Manager as their primary source of info.

Arshavin was a player I wanted us to get before the start of the season. I think he is a wonderful player!

it would probably require a complete overhaul of the current midfield crop, but IMHO, that's no bad thing anyway.

Unfortunately, I can see him going to one of the 'big boys' now...... :-|

That info is so obviously taken from Football Manager! And in reality he seems quite two footed (judging from online clips  ...) And my unqualified guess would be that he would be most suited to playing either right or left wing in the premiership.

And I would bloody love it if he were brought in, then we could have Arshavin, Lennon and Malbranque as our rotating wingers. (assuming Gilberto and Bale are going to alternate as our leftbacks and not leftmid)

All I can say he wants to go to either Spain or England. There are no firm offers at the mo.
But if Spurs were decisive and made a concrete offer, like they did in Berba’s case, something like £10 ml and 60k wages, I think Ramos would be a strong factor for Arshavin to sign.
I think he would not be dissimilar to what Juninho was for Boro a few years back.

From the few games I've seen of him, I'd imagine him Ronaldo-esque switching wings. He looks a fabulous player and while offensively him and Bale down the left would be incredible... would they be good enough to make up for how porous they would be defensively? I think so...

Looks real quality attacking mid whenever I've seen him .

Better than Rosicky and up there with Schneider .

Should be looking for an absolute max of 4 signings this Summer of the same quality as this guy .

I would imagine the scouts who work for Sports Interactive have watched Arshavin play alot more than you. Anyway..............................

Andrey Arshavin

Andrey Arshavin was born on 29 May 1981 in Leningrad.
Career

He started playing football at the age of 7. Andrey is a Smena football school graduate (coaches V. Vinogradov and S. Gordeev).
In 1999-2000 Andrey played for FC Zenit reserve team. He made his debut for the first squad in the Intertoto Cup away game against Bradford, which FC Zenit won 3:0. In his first game in the starting eleven Andrey justified the hopes of the head coach of that time Yuiy Morozov.
Andrey started as a right midfielder, his duet with Aleksandr Kerzhakov became well known in Russian Championship, especially in seasons 2001, 2003 as FC Zenit won medals.
He says that his hobby is creating goals for the team and it doesn’t matter whether he scores himself or assists someone.
It was Petrjela who decided that Arshavin should play at the edge of the attack in the middle of 2003, and Andrey scored two goals in his debut match as a forward against FC Uralan. This new role seemed to inspire Andrey and up to now Arshavin managed to score 58 goals (he celebrated his first goal in the match against Fakel (Voronezh) and his 50th goal in the home match against Luch-Energia).
Moreover, his goals in the very end of the UEFA Cup away game against FC AEK and FC Olympique de Marseille gave FC Zenit one of the most exciting events in the Club’s history – UEFA Cup quarter-finals.
Capped for the Russian youth team, where his partner was Aleksandr Anukov, who is also in the first squad now, Andrey made his debut in the national squad in May 2002 against Belarus.
Having scored 9 goals for the international team, Andrey set up a new club record of goals for the national team. Besides, he became FC Zenit best striker in Russian championships 2005, 2006.
Every year Andrey is on top of the 33-best Russian footballers list: he became number 1 in 2005 and 2006, and number 2 in 2001, 2002, 2004.
2005 Andrey became the first football player in Russia to be elected FIFA-Kinderdorf Ambassador.

Track record
2001 – Russian Championship bronze prizewinner
2003 – vice-champion of Russia
2003 – Premier-League Cup holder
2006 – Best player of Russia award and Russian National Squad leader award
