I must admit I wanted him in the past and he looked like he has great potential, I just wonder if this would be considered not the level of quality we need at the moment, I mean Rabiot looks like he would transform our midfield vs this guy who we would hope grow. my opinion would be that I'd love this dude aslong as there's another midfielder coming in during the summer.

He's got something about him, a solid 7 surely?

Why don’t the pair of you discuss this over dinner?

He was the best player under Henry, was made captain and owned the arm band. Showed glimmers of his days at Anderlecht. Down side is that he is slow, but clever and good on the ball. Would be happy with him.

Of all the players were linked to I reckon this is the most likely (and it’s probably not even likely to happen)

I agree. First, it’s reported by Matt Law at the Telegraph who has an excellent track record covering Spurs and really seems to be clued up about what’s going on inside the club.

Second, his report has an important caveat that makes it believable based on previous ITK. Levy is ready to do the deal but is waiting in a green light from Poch. That puts the potential deal in perspective. Levy likes the deal but does Poch like the player?

I feel this is how our transfer windows are working at the moment: Poch agrees to an ambitious and small list of targets; we realise we can’t get any of them for one reason or another; Levy then scours the market for doable deals in the hope Poch might take a fancy to one of them. That last strategy probably worked better with Redknapp because he was more flexible on who he brought in. Poch on the other hand is more focused and set on certain players and doesn’t like to make a quick judgment. Our team today is also a lot stronger so harder to find better players. Hence, we sign no one.

This is not a criticism of what we’re doing btw. Just a situation that’s understandable.

I would be a bit surprised if we filled our last remaining foreign player squad place with a player who hasn't really performed since stepping up to the French league.

I would like him and think Poch would get a lot more out of him. (As he does with a lot of players)

However, if we are looking are sheer ability of a CM who can have an instant impact on our team, Rabiot is the better player as it stands.

Ultimately, it seems (if media reports and some ITK are accurate) Rabiot isn’t interested in us yet.

However I would argue that there is space for both Rabiot and Tielemans in our squad.

A CM pool of:
Dier
Winks
Rabiot
Tielemans
Sissoko
Skipp

Sell Wanyama

I agree. Sounds to me like our name is being used to flush out a Leicester bid

"Tottenham consider move for Leicester City target Youri Tielemans"

"Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a dramatic bid..."

We're very good at thinking about signing players, less good at actually signing them ?

Presumably dramatic in the sense the bid will be too late for anything to materialise but early enough for us to say 'we tried'....

I still holding out for a midfield pool of
Dier, Berge, Skipp
Sissoko, Onomah
Rabiot, Winks

Which means losing Wanyama, but Berge appears to offer more variety on the ball.

However, I’m starting to believe Rabiot just isn’t going to happen, so need to replace him with Tielemans or Grillitsch from those linked.
