Before going to tribunal, clubs negotiate to try and strike a deal which is in the interests of both parties as no-one can be quite sure what the tribunal will decide. The word is that United demanded the £6m in these negotiations and that they weren't going to move from this at tribunal, where the panel hear the cases of both clubs re: the amount of money that should change hands and rule accordingly. The other side being Fergie and United, I don't think we fancied our chances of paying much less than the £6m figure they were after.

I think you're on to something there! I wonder how long it will be before the United owners begin to be suspicious...maybe when he puts Rio in goal and decides to replace the substitutes bench with a shrubbery?
I think they'll know quite a bit before the shrubbery when they hear him yelling 'We are the Knights who say NI' during training.

I like the clubs response to the issue.
"Tottenham have defended the deal they agreed with Fryers and a club spokesman said: "Zeki Fryers was out of contract in the summer. We had looked in to the possibility of signing the player but were unable to agree a deal on the terms Manchester Unitedwere asking.
"Zeki chose to go to Standard Liege, who paid compensation to Manchester United. Zeki enjoyed his time at Standard. However, when Standard sacked their manager in November, Zeki wasn't part of the new manager's plans, which he accepts and understands happens in football.
"Unfortunately, a combination of this, and the fact that he had become homesick meant he wanted to return to England and his representatives made contact with clubs in England.
"This afforded us a second opportunity to sign the player and as per FIFA's solidarity contribution mechanism, Manchester United will receive five per cent of the transfer fee we have paid."

In order to put thangs into perspective, I such anyone who takes Fergie's bitter we can feck you but you can't feck us rant remotely seriously, should spend half an hour researching just exactly how Beetroot Head got David Beckham to Old Trafford (okay, it was only the Spammers he fecked, but he still fecked someone)
I thought Beckham was on our books before going to Utd?

I don't know quite where I have got that from, but it appears to be a false memory I have been carrying about with me since that time. My only excuse is that I was going through a pretty traumatic relationship break-up and lost my job at one and the same time, and went through a pretty hefty period on the bevvy and stuff. That might explain why I seem to remember something that doesn't seem to have ever happened (give you some idea of why I had to go on the wagon). I do, very often, state that my memory of that period is very sketchy, whenever anyone mentions games/results, etc.
Anyway, I'm off to do some swift editing

hahaha that's great. Zeki Fryers is disappointed that it didn't work out at the Belgian club he had probably never heard of before and will just have to come to Tottenham instead." Basically a big fuck you to Man United and SAF, good they deserve it. How about put your young players on new contracts before they run out.
