By all accounts they were very bothered to lose him. They offered him a contract which he turned down wanting greater forst team oportunities. The press at the time said Fergie was furious, which I believe came from a former player if memory serves. He wouldn't be making a fuss now if he wasn't bothered then.

Yeah, I remember that, too. As I recall, Fergie wanted to keep him, just didn't want to give him the wages. Funny that, they think he is a £6 million player, get in a tizzy over losing him, and get in a tizzy over a player joining us that their supporters are now saying isn't all that, but they didn't want to pay him a commensurate wage. Mmmmmmm?

I read on a United forum this morning they offered him £2K a week.

Don't see how it's underhand at all. SL wanted to sell him. We're paying them the fee they want. Seems all honourable and above board to me. Unless we forced United to allow him to move to SL in the first place of course haha rather unlikely. That MU allowed him to go to SL in the first place is nothing to do with us - two totally different deals and if Spurs have the contacts that give them the low down on what's happening next and therefore the ability to move sharply when an opportunity materialises, then that's not underhand, that's good, sound business practice.

Standard Liege defended the deal they had agreed with Zeki Fryers to move to Tottenham that caused Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to become enraged.

The 20-year-old left the Red Devils in the summer to join Standard Liege, despite interest from Spurs but the two clubs couldn’t agree a fee, but has subsequently joined the Lilywhites in January.

A statement on the Belgian club’s website tonight read: “The young defender felt homesick and had difficulty acclimating to life away from home and family.

“So when the London club became interested we understood the situation and were not opposed to the return of the player in England.”

They may be 2 deals but 2 deals worked out in the summer to get round the rules, which would be underhand. He wanted to come to us but had to go there first to prevent going to tribunal. Coincidence he arrives 6 months later? No. It's clear cut, just can't be proven.

If it can't be proven then it's not clear cut.

Before he left United, their fans were saying he would replace Evra and seemed to rate him quite highly. Now they're saying he's crap.

That's a sign of a good player (y)

As Fryers was out of contract in June he effectively called the shots as to where he was going to go, if it wasn't Spurs. Levy no doubt advised his agent that our little club in Belgium would be a good parking bay for a few months and off he trotted at a fraction of the price of what we would have paid by tribunal.

We're going to have to get a song ready for Fergie.
I hope Fryers is in our squad against Manu just so he can warm up in front of the United bench. Fergie will go so red he'll eventually explode.

Utd and Fergie can't really speculate on dodgy transfers as they paid £7m for Bebe. That has dodgy written all over it. It was astute business as usual from Levy.

Gotta love Levy the little genius! I can imagine him sitting there in his mansion laughing his head off seeing Fergie get all red and bothered! Like he gives a monkeys uncle about what Fergies views are on Spurs. Lest we forget, that red nosed f*cker went behind our back with Berbatov. If I remember rightly, Fergie invited Berbs up there without even agreeing a fee with us to force our hand!

Basically F*CK YOU FERGIE YOU RED NOSED OLD TW*T!

SAF is the biggest hypocrite and despite his success and his undeniable ability as a football club manager, he really takes the mickey with most of the BS he spouts. All the crap he comes out with from referee intimidation, players being tapped up and his attacks on other teams' management or chairmen is boring and repetitive.
