I'm one of those who wanted JJ gone in the last window and although I still need to see more from him to be convinced he can be the player we all think he can be I must take a humble bow and admit he has stepped up and has been playing like a very good CM in the games hes played so far. I don't know what it is with him, it could be the new training staff are helping him just like they seem to be doing with Lennon or it could be the inclusion of Niko and the fact that Thudd has had a good run and the rumours and Sandro..........what I'm trying to say is competition in the squad seems to have helped some of our players (if only Bentley would take note).
I called Dawson a donkey and and I had to eat humble pie after he stepped up his game and I would just love to do the same with JJ and it seems to be heading that way

On a seperate note there was not much if any mention about Niko's tackles against Burnley! I thought he had a very good game and them tackles were sweet even Charlie started making some good tackles!

I've always liked JJ. He has created ridiculous amounts of debate on this board. He's not as bad as many make out but he has never reached his potential.

This could be because of poor coaching or not being able to form an effective partnership with his other central midfielder. We all saw how effective he was playing alongside Palacios at the end of last season and how their work rate allows Lennon and Modric to get forward more.

Who knows maybe JJ wil finally get his performances up to a level where he can be considered a genuine option in the England squad.

The thing with JJ is that he blows hot and cold and will probably have a shocker at bolton next saturday.

I like JJ but he never be in the same class as gerrard, lampard, scholes etc..... because he simply isn't good enough.

You can throw stats at me all day long about his passing ratio and all that other stuff but at the end of the day he isn't a top four team class midfielder where as wilson would fit into any any them with ease.

JJ is underrated though, have said so for quite a while.... He needs to impose himself a bit more with goals, when we need extra, in the way Gerrard and Lampard do. Thats his biggest problem really, his compared to two of the best midfielders in world football in terms of goal scoring.

He is our best partner for Palacios and Harry knows it. He will continue to play in the middle and Huddlestone will probably drop to the bench again.

Its great to have JJ back. He's still the best partner for Palacios at the moment. But Huddlestone is getting there, and he has age on his side. One thing i liked on Saturday though was the camaradie between JJ and the likes of Keane and Bale. They look like they're all good friends on and off the pitch and that can only help the team spirit. JJ is one of our longest serving and most experienced players so he is important to us.

Haha

He's not good enough because he's not better than 3 of the best CMs to ever grace the game? fuck me, that's some unrealistic standards you have there.

It also makes me laugh when people criticise our players for not being top 4 players. We're not a top 4 club! never have been in the Premier League.

It's hilarious how people think.

Not every player has to be a genius to be a great player imo. I think of all the stick a player like Darren Fletcher has gotten over the years. As a CM, he's not comparable on an individual basis to any of the 3 previously mentioned, but he remains one of the first names on the team sheet for United and has won cup after cup.

I'm just saying that he isn't good enough to take us any further in terms of what he offers on the pitch.

My standards aren't unrealistic i don't think as we sold the best midfielder we had in years to utd in carrick and i believe if we still had him alongside wilson then our midfielder would be top top class.

Like i said i like JJ but i truly believe that he hasn't got that extra something in his play like carrick had.

If JJ had worked under Sir Alex for the past several years, he would be a top class player by now.

Yey, this is the next cliche I was after.

How do you know? Personally I have been frustrated with JJ since he arrived, but still rated him because I knew there wa a good player in there.

I've been happy with his performances since Palacios arrived, which makes me think maybe he simply needed a better partner so he can play his own game, instead of being all singing and all dancing.

IF we get top 4 this season, will you admit that he has helped us get to the next level? probably not, you will say it was all down to Wilson.

Carrick was top class indeed, but he was also the subject of an £18.6m bid from United, a top class team. To suggest JJ isn't good enough for us based on that (especially when you consider JJ was in the team that got us our best league finish) is crazy. It's like saying Defoe isn't good enough because we sold Berbatov.

JJ and Wilson (imo) are perfect foil for eachother and have been excellent as a partnership.

You make good points as usual and of course i will admit that JJ has helped us achieve the next level if we make the top four.

some ppl on here take things so personally, just chill it's just opinions.

These were my words early last season but to the end of the season and since his comeback I've been looking at him closer and the problem (if you want to call it a problem) is because he don't really do all the fancy stuff that the other CMs he has been compared to do. We don't really see his worth but looking at him closer in the last part of the season and now in the few games hes played I think he has played a good part. I know its only been a couple of games and I like most feel that his bad game is just around the corner. I just hope I'm wrong and its down to the new coaching staff and Harry thats made a difference to JJ and also the Palacios effect.
Just for the sake of unity I would prefer to have JJ turned into a consistent CM rather than sign another player. The squad looks happier than I've seen them for a long time and more changes could have an effect on that. If any we need backup rather than replacements.

Anyway I think we got more problems in defence than midfield so thats where the issues need sorting

They will, as injuries start to ease. I think Bassong and Dawson could be a good partnership, but I dunno, maybe we do actually need to replace Ledley now.

We've been linked with Upson again recently, I guess we'll just have to see where we stand in Jan (if Woodgate is fit etc)

I hope JJ keeps it up, and I also rate him.

Definitely our best centre midfielder along with Palacios.

They were awesome together last season.

Personally, I like the fact that Hudd has stepped up, and Harry is making the 'normal' regulars work hard to get back into the team.

Makes the players want to play better and keeps them on their toes, in order to get the best performances from individuals, also makes the team perform better.

Exciting times, going to be a good season.

Definitely exciting. I would say 5 out of our next 6 games should be won, that would give us an amazing points tally for that point in the season. I know it's easy to say we should win those games, but so far we can take heart in that we've not failed to beat any team we should have, unlike last season where we were ok against the top 4 and lost to every team in the bottom half.

IMHO JJ is still our number 1 central midfield player and that includes Wilson.

There are two ways of looking at JJ and how he played the Burnley match. On the one hand, he scored a goal, made a delightful pass to release Lennon for Keane's second, and generally worked hard, but then with his ability he should have been absolutely bossing that midfield, and he still didn't really get hold of it at any point of the match. He is so much better than the players he was up against, but there is still something that holds him back from being the player he should be.
