Being explained on SSN now - couple of hundred quid put on it at 66-1 so the bookies cut the odds, and the whole process begot itself (mostly in tenners and twenties), meaning the bookies cutit more - but apparently absolute BS, and 'Arry has rubbished it.:bs:

"It's a TRIFFIC club", he said:rofl:

Surely it'd have to be more money than that to make such large changes in the odds.

But I guess maybe like a domino effect? One bookie reduces odds slightly, another sees it and does the same, then reduces again and before you know it's all snowballed.

Thats what I'm thinking. For every couple of hundred put on Harry, there must be a bag of sand being bet on Brown.

But £200 on a manager sitting 4th in the table, flying high at 66-1 is pretty wierd. Would be easy to start snowballing from there.

Apparently not, Nic.

It is all about the amount the bookies are liable for - it is how they work.

Say they did have a couple of hundred at 66 - 1. that means that if it were to happen they would be liable for £13,020 plus the stake fee (£200).

That is more than enough to get them to cut their odds - on the basis that there may really be something in it and someone in the know (there is always someone ITK) comes in and plonks, say, £2000 on, again at 66 - 1.

Once the process starts, people see that they odds have gone in considerably, and conclude that someone knows something. If 100 people do this at £20 each, you have your £2000, and even if the bookies have halfed their odds to 33-1 that is still £65,000 odds, plus the original £13,020.

See how it works.

Every time there is a little rush, the bookies cut the odds, which folk will see and reach their own conclusions, and hey presto, you have an Evens joint favourite for the sack.

Apparently Harry has been caught with his camera phone out at Little Ted's nursery in Exeter.

Levy, you genius!!!

I take you back to October 2008. All the punters betting on the ups and downs of the stock market bet that VW's shares will go down, like all the car manufacturers as we were in the midst of a recession. Porsche takes these bets, knowing that they are actually buying up VW shares and keeping the price high. They use the money from winning the bets to buy more and more shares, and eventually buy VW without having spent even half of their own money.

Levy has obviously started the rumour, taken bets from other punters, knowing that Harry wont get sacked. This money will then be used to fund our new stadium, we will be debt free with a spanking new table and Harry leading us to glory!!!

Or its a case of the betting an indicator of precisely sod all. Like when England are joint favourites for the world cup, because a lot of people put the odd ten quid on them to win and so they have to shorten the odds to spread their liability.

You also have to bear in mind that bookies hedge when they get massive exposure like that (£13,200). That bookie will likely have gone and put a big bet on it somewhere else just in case and the snowball starts rolling

That'd be ace.

So, Harry, where do you stand on the key issue of the Sexiest Male on SpursCommunity?

"Well, Stripey's a terrific lad, cute as a button. Then there's ChrissyNumbers who's got a smile and a half, lovely lad, love him to bits. Or I could vote for Kendall, who's got a cracking bum and top, top guns."

Go on, Robo. Tell Donna to get it sorted.

If Harry actually said that I'd die a happy man.

Not at all. It takes very, very little money at 66/1 to alter the odds significantly. It's all about liabilities and balancing the books. Doesn't take a lot of money at that price to rack up five-figure liabilities that will see any bookie running for cover.

Then you get people blindly following the initial money with ten and twenty-quid bets at 33s and 28s and before you know it you've got an 11/10 shot.

as long as he has done nothing dodgy at spurs and it doesnt effect us with points deductions etc. dont think he has anything to do with transfer dealings at spurs anyway.
