Club Announcement
20 December 2009
The Club can announce that John Alexander, Club Secretary, will be leaving to join Manchester United after the end of the season.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: "John has been with us for 10 years and during that time he has brought a high level of professionalism to his role. We should like to thank him for his valued contribution and hard work and wish him well for when he returns north."

John will remain at the Club until 30 June 2010 and the Club will seek a replacement for him in the coming months.

Losing anyone to ManU is bad news. It means that person is doing a good job. That's the nature of the beast I suppose. One day I hope to see the reverse happening...

I believe he is moving back to his roots so nothing drastic to be read into it although it sort of points to a job done.
I think that we have reached the point where we have sorted out the new ground, the world cup bid and I suspect the financing for the new ground so he probably feels its a good time to move on.

Its not good though, losing him and Paul Barber means Levy will be without both his left and right hands.

True, it's a shame to lose them both but I think the Paul Barber move also points to the club being in calm waters.
Let's hope the new guys are good.

That's the same concern i have. We've had a superb financial team working at the Lane under Levy and that does, to some extent, instill a sense of confidence that he will replace them with equally astute, or maybe even more, than our outgoing staff.

Good luck to him though, ten years at a job, an opportunity like this doesn't come up often and he can go proudly knowing that the hard work him, Mr Barber and their colleagues have put in have made us, financially, the benchmark for football clubs globally

Doesn't the club secretary just buy flowers for Levy's missus on his anniversary?

I'm concerned that if we dont get Euro footy this season, nothings guaranteed as yet, it wont be only Mr Alexander joining them next season. I can see Modric going to fill the void that Scholes will leave!

Kinda how I feel. I know, as posters have said, he has been at the club 10 years, and leaves us with the new stadaium in the pipeline and a financial benchmark for others to follow, but even so...United, again:bang:

I would, however, also take it as possible as sign that they are getting worried about their debt level and moves afoot in this regard at UEFA - a United forced to act within financial constraints like other clubs has to be good news for English football, and especially clubs like ours after years of them throwing money at any half decent player we get:shrug:

Modders to ManUre - I demand that it never happens:roll:

What me and you want does'nt count though does it. Fact is if they come in with a huge bid, and the player want's to go (Robbie Keane anyone) then there is nothing else we can do. We can try and keep a unhappy player, but is that what you/we really want......

No, you miss the point, I will hold my breath until my cheeks (facial) bulge and I is passing out; and I will cwy and cwy and cwy :)cry::cry::cry:).

I may even visit the garden and eat worms (couold anyone supply a suitable emoticon:shrug:).

Very sad about this. Everything I hear about this guy is positive - a genuine asset to THFC. Wish him all the best but as has been said it's a huge gap to fill. He's been personally involved in a majority of all our transfers for years. Wonder how the ad in the Standard Classifieds will read...?

This post really, really tickled me. I think it was the "cheeks (facial)" part.

I wish Mr. Alexander all the best. He's done a great job for this club for a decade now. But I hope he also helps run Man Utd into the ground.

 our very own Trojan Horse.

His best days are behind him, now, anyway:cry:

Cheers for that. I'm now getting strange looks from people as when I saw the thread title I shouted 'bugger off, you can't have Luka!'.

I'm concerned about this for two ways:

1- If he knows something about contacts for our transfer targets ( specially those at Brazilian Inter ) or helping Man Utd interest for one of our players could be needed at Man Utd the likes of Modric, Bale, Lennon, Bostok, Rose, Mason etc .. But we should think that Levy could already sort these things unless (below)

2- more important for me, with Barber & Alexander went, I hope this is not a step for Levy to sell the club. Levy for me is the best chairman in the world, I really can't see us with other chairman.

I trust Levy if he is staying, he will find a better replacement for both .. but if he isn't going to stay for long, this is the main problem :-|

Club secretary is just an admin guy though, pen pusher with a fancy title, filling in forms to satisfy HMRC, doing the annual return and other companies house forms, can't imagine he will be too hard to replace
